Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $349.00 from ValueElectronics.com

Summary:
I had been on the fence about HDDVD/Blu-Ray,but this player had high praises I couldn't resist.I looked at all the 2nd gen HD DVD palyers but the build quality seemed flimsy. To make a long story short a year ago this player sold for around $799.

Strengths:
Picture,Sound, build quality & price.Toshiba notifies you of recent firmware updates for this player.ANybody who says there isn't enough difference in the picture compare to regular dvd is just flat out CHEAP.I paid $349 for this player and paid over $300 for my first dvd player and it was used but retailed at $799.I hear people say dvd players can be had for $39 dollars and there's difference between a cheap 1 and high-end other than price.Seeing is beleiving and it's an excellent upconverter too.

Weaknesses:
Slow boot-up about 40 seconds.

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $500.00 from p c richard

Summary:
One of the finest pieces I have ever owned. Lots of WOW factor here. Performance in all areas is stunning. The slow loading time referred to by many is not at all like I expected. It is not that slow at all. Very fast compared to the Sony Blu-Ray. Even an impatient person should have no complaints.
The picture is breath-taking, even on Standard definition. Truly, state of the art. Simple to use. I recommend this unit 100%.

Strengths:
Every area of this unit should bring smiles to its owner. The solid construction is pleasing. The luxury feel is so satisfying (love the door). The remote is great!

Weaknesses:
I haven't found a weakness.

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $779.00 from OneCall

Summary:
Toshiba hit a homerun with this player! The picture and sound quality of standard DVDs is incredible. I find myself reviewing my entire DVD library and discovering nuances I never saw previously. This player is without a doubt the best up-converting DVD player out there (as many professional reviewers agree).

The build quality of this player is excellent. It weighs close to 20 pounds and has a very solid, well-built feel. It has an attractive faceplate with a sleek automatic door that drops down to reveal the sturdy disc drawer. It exudes quality in all respects.

The picture and sound qualiy of HD DVDs on this player are mind-numbingly spectacular! Clarity, depth, and detail are excellent, and the SHARC processors reveal subtleties on soundtracks that are a revelation!

I highly recommened this player. It features excellent standard DVD upconversion, HD DVD quality that will blow you away, and a "built-like-a-tank" exterior. With Blu-ray's embarrassing launch, HD DVD is the clear winner out of the gate in the high definition format war. This player, and the HD DVD format, will not disappoint you.

Strengths:
Excellent SD DVD pcture Quality
Incredible HD DVD picture quality
Analog devices SHARC processors
sound quality
build-quality

Weaknesses:
Load times
