from HI-FI GALLERY in LAH Summary: I bought this YAM!due to good remarks it received from HCC mags.I was very impressed with its video quality CRYSTAL CLEAR PICTURES!all i can say.I was very fortunate coz it is MULTI-REGION at 400usd only.It plays perpectly plays well my DVD'S without any trouble. My room mate who bought his pioneer233 mainly due to its cd-r and cd-rw features decided to bought this YAMMY and sold his pioneer.Reason? layer changed of pioneer is very noticeable.secondly it always pause for a few seconds and then it plays again especially those Region3 and region4 DVD'S while this YAMMY plays perpectly! its quiet too!my only gripe is i was not able to get the champainge GOLD model yammy.I dont care if it is not cd-r or cd-rw as long as it plays perpectly and delivers STUNNING video quality im very much satisfied.LUV YUUUUUMMMMM. Strengths: BRILLIANT,CRYSTAL CLEAR PICTURES EASY TO OPERATE. Weaknesses: the black model doesn't match my RXV-800.Wanna be classy? go for the GOLD!and you won't be disappointed! Similar Products Used: PIONEER won't mentioned the model.

Review 4 of 23 Summary: This is an update to my entry from 1 year ago. To see my original comments from (12/29/00 12:28:36 PM) scroll down towards the bottom of this page.
*UPDATE*
I just wanted to mention that this DVD player is still working just like it did when I pulled it out of the box, PERFECT! I have watched 100's of movies without any problems. Sometimes when I rent them from Blockbuster and they have GIANT scratches on them, it'll glitch, but that is to be expected, i guess. However if the disc is new or even has "normal" wear and tear, it plays flawlessly. I still give it 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone who wants an easy to use, good looking, excellent picture and audio playing DVD player. Strengths: Still working fine.

Review 5 of 23
Price Paid:
$400.00 Summary: I guess Yam concentrated on looks and quality in build, picture and sound in stead of those extras wich i think is better than doing a "funmachine" with lousy picture and sound........but the same quality with mp3 and CDR support would have been even better of course.
The most anoying thing was that it was so XXXX expensive to do it region free - 100 fuxxin bucks - ROB ME PLZ.
If ure in for a DVD player only to play DVD´s on and u want a NIIIICE looking player then go for the gold finish DVD-S796. U wont be displeased.
Have had it for about 9 months now and it is troublefree so far.
Strengths: Videoquality is very good. Sound emitted together with my Yam AVR1000 + extra amp för 6th channel and sub is INCREDIBLE. Toy story 2 makes u jump of joy feeling as u were in the movie. It radiates quality - its quiet, its solid, it has a very nice finish on the gold front in aluminum. It´s REALLY NICE TO LOOK AT (standing above matching gold AVR1000). Weaknesses: NO CDR SUPPORT - that´s my biggest disapointment since i have to get a matching gold CD player (which do not exist yet). NO Mp3 support. Very expensive to make regionfree - about $100 Similar Products Used: Borrowed a samsung 4 a week. MUCH NOISIER and plastic non quality sound on fex the DVD tray. Plastic looks. Very hard to tell difference on sound and picture unless u put them on att the samt time wich i couldnt since mine were in 4 decoding.
