The Toshiba SD2705 DVD player includes a five-disc capacity carousel and all the standard features Toshiba incorporates into their DVD players. Summary: I agree with all the bad review this product has received. I have hardly used it in over 6 months and it will not longer play any CD or DVD. I cannot believe that the Toshiba has made this poor quality product and pretty disgusted by its performance.
Strengths: None
Weaknesses: Slow and bulky by today's standards

Summary: I'm pissed and I've lost track as to how many problems I've with this POS. Bought my 1st dvd playe oct 2001 and it last til about feb., after a month of dicking around done by bestbuy (where they claimed to have fixed my problems and I subsequently brought it back to them twice) they gave me a new system same model. It last about six month before it needed an adjustment or something. 5 or 6 monthes passed and now I sit here in the same position, wanting a Sony. This thing is a POS. I get disc error once a night and the tray opens... that's with the new DVD I brought home that night mind you. And if by some act of God the disc picks up and plays, it'll be choppy. Freeze here or there, stops for up to 10 secs at a time and or just jumps to the next scene and leaves you wondering if Silent Bob actually sucks Jay's dick in J&SBSB. Oh and if you do decide to purchase this POS, buy the plan on it, it'll be used time after time. And t hesae monkeys at BestBuy, my little cousins in elementry school could do what they're doing. Just cause these dicksa can set the clock on a vcr doesn't mean they should be a tech. Only reason it got a 2 star was we got some about 6 monthes out of the 1st system and nearly a yr out of the second, but then again that's not counting the time BestBuy and/or Toshiba had MY DVD player.
Strengths: 5 disc changer, protective plan wasnt all that exspensive
Weaknesses: Not a SONY, disc errors galore, skipping, freezing, turns off when if gets sleepy (not when you get sleepy), take a guess

Summary: It died after 6 months of use, and very little use at that. We probably only watched 10-15 DVD's total in the time we owned it. Now it does not recognize disks and the door just keeps opening and shutting. It won't recognize audio disks either. This item is a total piece of crap. Toshiba should be ashamed of themselves. I called Toshiba's tech support and they suggested unplugging the unit for an hour and then trying again. Same problem. I'm sure Toshiba is aware of the problems with this unit but they choose to do nothing about it.
Strengths: Good paperweight.
Weaknesses: Cannot play DVD's, duh.

Summary: Read all these reviews carefully...ESPECIALLY the complaints, indeed they are all true. If you are an advid DVDer you will not be happy with this model. If you are replacing a 5 CD player and want a DVD player but only have room for one unit (my situation) and you can pick this unit up for $129 at Sams Club or BJs it might be worth it. It does offer many features but it is very slow in starting up and reading disks, does not play all disks without adjusting settings (Atlantis did not initially work and I am now having trouble with the Extras on: The Wizard of Oz) but does offer excellent picture and sound when functioning. One major annoyance... if you have the unit on and multiple disks in and add another it will never recognize the 4th disk unless you shut the thing off then turn it back on. By the way, just turning the thing on takes forever. My first unit had loose parts in it and did not work....second unit is fine. It was a gift supposedly well rated in CR. Still Toshiba should be a bit ashamed for this inferior peice of equipment....unless all Multi disk DVD players are this slow, can not decode all disks, need to be powered off/on occasionally and have poorly laid out incredibly small non-universal remotes.
Strengths: Picture, sound and price, Have seen as low as $129 of late.
Weaknesses: Slow on/off, does not decode all disks without default settings manipulation, small remote, does not recognize disks added after unit turned on, loud, and all other weekenesses noted in prior reviews.
