Review 1 of 43

Price Paid:  $100.00 from Superfi (£)

Summary:
Bought this in May 2004 for £100 from Superfi, only sold it due to upgrading to Arcam DV88 for one box player. Lost me a box, and lost me picture quality as well. The Sony was astounding for the price, only recently has my new Pioneer matched it, not beat it though. Powerful visual setup options, great black level, but audio analogue outputs very muddy. The 930p is well rated, but if you value value (!) then get the 730, same player with none QS components - but same result in the end.

Strengths:
Brilliant picture quality at rgb and s-video.

Weaknesses:
Poor sound through analogue outputs.

Review 2 of 43

Price Paid:  $330.00

Summary:
I have owned this unit for over three years and it has never skipped a beat. Never. The picture is very good. The unit plays some pretty banged up discs without any problem at all. I do not use it for music. I have had it hooked into a 56" progressive scan Panasonic wide screen and a new Samsung 50" DLP. Oddly, the picture was a little better with the Panasonic, but I don't blame the DVD player for that. I thin the meuns are laid out well and there are a good number of options to choose from. Most of all, no repairs, no hiccups, etc. after playing a ton of DVD's during the past three years.

Strengths:
Good picture. Reliable. Decent remote for equipment these days.

Weaknesses:
None.

Similar Products Used:
Panasonic and Samsung

Review 5 of 43

Price Paid:  $300.00 from audiobuys

Summary:
I purchased this player to provide a progressive scan source for my 57" XBR widescreen. The player is connected via YIQ component cables. After viewing a couple movies, my impression is that the picture seems to have less artifacts of the reverse 3:2 pulldown process (sharp or flat surfaces having a pulsating visual effect during pans) when the XBR is receiving an interlaced signal and using its own CINEMOTION chip to create the progressive image than using a straight progressive output from the player. I have another SONY DVD that has component out. I am going to return the NS715P (NS700 new model) and use the old one.

Strengths:
lots of features

Weaknesses:
Reverse 3:2 pulldown weak compared to XBR Cinemotion reverse 3:2 pulldown.

Similar Products Used:
DVP NS300

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
