Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Woked fine cept for the occasional skipping to next frame on DVD's,,, quit working in the middle of a DVD lastweek... power just went off and it won't power back up and of course there DVD is stuck inside. Can't figure out how to get it out, we have even opened it and there isn't even a manual eject. Don't know what to do.

Strengths:
Has worked good

Weaknesses:
skips frames every now and then, plus there is no manual eject button.

Similar Products Used:
Panasonic DVD player that is pretty old... works great!

Review NaN of

Price Paid:  $200.00 from best buy

Summary:
I bought the Sony DVP-NS400D in Sep. 2001. It worked fine on DVDs, VCDs, and music CDs until Sep. 2003. The problem is it won't eject the VCD inside of the machine. When power up the unit, the display shows Sony DVD and Standby momentary, then the power indicator went off by itself. No matter how I try, it just won't eject the last VCD I played. Now I am stuck. After I read all the 61 reviews, I found there were similar problems with this model. Is there anyone can help? Thanks for viewing my two cents.

Strengths:
Quality picture. Functioned well.

Weaknesses:
It quit now. $200 for tow years use, I cannot complain too much.

Similar Products Used:
Pioneer (bought before Sony) - very good and still working.

Review NaN of

Price Paid:  $200.00 from Goodguys in Oregon

Summary:
An excellent player. Purchased it from Goodguys over the internet for $200 with free shipping and no tax (don't know how they handle the "no tax" since I live in California and there have tons of stores here-I guess they eat the cost).
The player had no problems with anything that I threw at it, which are mainly original DVDs, homebrewed cheap media VCDs and DVD-Rs created on a computer CD or DVD burner. Had very few C:13 (disk dirty errors). After retrying, or ejecting and playing the disk again, it would play it fine. Video quality is excellent, although I cannot discern any video difference between S-Video and A/V outputs. The screen menu is rather antique, but the essential video decoding parts are doing an excellent job.

Strengths:
Plays DVD, DVD-R, DVD-R/W, VCD, and CDs.

Weaknesses:
On screen menu can use some help. Also the front panel's fluorescent readout is a little confusing at it is too small and the spacing for the title and minutes and seconds should be more spaced out.

Similar Products Used:
First DVD player, otherwise used computer based DVD-ROMs.

Review NaN of

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Best Buy

Summary:
We bought the Sony DVP-NS400D just over a year ago along with a total Sony surround sound system. We loved it. It played all our DVDs perfectly. Until it stopped working that is. Any DVD we put in it gave us the "No Disc" message after spinning it for awhile. I called our authorized Sony repair place and took it in for a $40 look and see (cost to be applied to fixing it). Needless to say, just barely being over it's one year warrenty, our DVD player now makes a better door stop. It would cost us as much as getting new one to fix it. So I'm going to get a new one and it's not going to be a Sony. I would have given Sony another chance, but after doing exhaustive searches on the web it seems that this is a common problem and Sony will not even acknowledge it. For those of you that still love your Sony DVD players, I assume that you have only had them for less than a year or that you are lucky. And if you are lucky count your blessings as it really is a great DVD player, when it works.

Strengths:
Great player all around, when it works.

Weaknesses:
Sony seems to have a problem with many of thier units breaking just after the warrenty is up. No Disc common error.

Review NaN of , from Eureka

Price Paid:  $90.00 from Sears Parts and serv

Summary:
At the time I got this DVD player, they were still selling for 250 on the self inside Sears. I knew the features Sony offers my parents have the DVP-S530D. I was very suprised to see the new menus and ease of use. The picture quality through component is great. The FF and RW are some of the cleanest I have seen, and the added 2X helps out. The Player looks great when playing burned Video CDs. Layer switch is faster than the S530D.

Strengths:
Versatilty, Picture Quality, all the added features, Sony's DVD Text for short titled movies

Weaknesses:
Sony's lack of zoom feature
