Sony DVP-NC85H Multi-disc DVD Player
2 Reviews
rating  2.5 of 5
MSRP
Description: The DVP-NC85H five-disc DVD player offers 720p/1080i upscaling through an HDMI connection. HDMI allows the transfer of uncompressed Digital Audio and Video signals to other HDMI equipped components, providing an uncompromised picture. It also features Precision Cinema Progressive technology, which delivers accurate and vivid images to the television. Unlike other DVD players that detect image changes at the Scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the Pixel level. This results in images closer to the original source data, because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing Pixel behavior. Precision Drive III mechanism is also included, which helps maximize the performance of DVD collections by reading data even on some physically "warped" discs. Other benefits include a 12bit/108MHz video DAC (digital to Analog converter), and 24 bit/192KHz audio, providing high-quality video and audio Processing.

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Overall works fine but what good is a 5-disk changer for listening to musc if you cannot random play from all disks? I'm returning the unit due to this lack of function.

Strengths:
Digital output is noticably better than the RGB from my old player. Changing and loading disks is quieter but slower than my old Sony player.

Weaknesses:
Random shuffle play is limited to one disk at a time. The player will not shuffle between all loaded disks like my old NC-655 Sony player. Wait time for a DVD to begin initial play is excessive while it flashes "loading" on the display.

Price Paid:  $129.00 from AAFES

Summary:
Great product. 5 Disc changer is smooth, the connections give you plenty of options. I primarily bought it because I wanted something that played DVD MP3's.
I was never a huge Sony fan, seem to be more hype to their products than anything but this DVD player supports everything. When I go home though I happen to have 3 sony home theater components so they must be doing something right.

Strengths:
Price, Menu Options, 5 Disc Changer and ability to play virtually everything out now.

Weaknesses:
No shuffle option for DVD MP3's and just regular MP3's. It was kind of dissapointing and would have been nice but it was not necessary.
