Strengths: The minute I purchase the item, I was very eager to give it trial run with a DVD. I was impressed by the picture quality and by the sound that came from the small speakers located directly below the screen. Although, some small adjustment may be needed to obtain the superior picture quality I mentioned earlier. The sound is also acceptable granted the speaker are only two 28mm round speakers. The sound would be best optimized with the use of a pair of quality headphones.
Audio playback was flawless. I was especially pleased that the DVD player was able to play MP3 files.
Picture quality- B+ Sound quality- B Sound quality with headphones- A- Special features- A Ease of use- A
All in all I would have to give this item a B+ to A-.
Weaknesses: Some of the weaknesses I found were:
-Delayed loading time DVD and MP3. Approximately 25 seconds.
-Weight was a little heavy maybe 2lbs. -Location of the volume controls may be better if located beside the play / stop / pause controls.
Never the less, I think one would be more than satisfied with the purchase of this item.

Summary: Fresh out of the box, the first DVD I put in exhibited the freeze that so many have addressed, but I am still impressed with the quality of the video and audio of this near $200 unit. This is the first sharp product I have purchased, and am satisfied with it. The one issue I've noticed is the occasional "boxes" which is a sign of digital compression. This is my first DVD so I am not sure if this is normal. All and all, the picture is better than my $400 SVHS player, the features are many and easy to use.
Strengths: High picture Quality, good sound, ease of setup

Summary: If it weren't so picky about the cleanliness of the DVD's, then it would be fantastic. But, I've put in new DVDs and had them pause/skip only to find minute traces of dust that had to be removed before the DVD would play well.
Weaknesses: Extremely finicky on disk cleanliness, sloooow loading

Summary: I bought this for under $200.00. Not a bad deal for what i paid, sometimes hangs up if the DVD is not perfectly clean. The sound quality is amazing. I never knew there was so much difference between DVD and VHS. VHS is now collecting dust. No major problems as of yet but as anyone knows Sharp isn't know for sturdy composition. A remote that's visible in the dark would defintely be an improvement.
Strengths: easy hook up, low price, good value for the money (in my opinion) works great with Aiwa home theater system
Weaknesses: little slow on some movies, sometime hangs up if dvd isn't perfectly clean
