Strength:

Remote. Component video output. 24bit/96kHz DACs.

Weakness:

Some skipping on scratched DVDs. Some trouble with CD-Rs. No optical output.

At the time I bought the 739, it was a great deal. I bought it as an open-box item. DVD players have come WAY down in price, so there are better deals to be had now.

Overall, I am happy with this unit. It does skip on some DVDs I've rented. Upon inspection, it always seemed that the DVD was pretty badly scratched, so I never thought it was all the 739's fault.

Sometimes it has a problem recognizing my Sony 650 MB CD-R, but usually it plays them. I just bought some Sony 700 MB CD-R, and it has a major popping and ticking problem with them.

DVD picture and audio quality have been good. I just bought an Onkyo TX-DS595 receiver (which I'm very happy with) and the coax digital output on the Samsung works fine for Dolby Digital, DTS, and CD PCM.

The player has it's own volume control, which was very handy for me, because my old receiver did not have a remote control. One caveat is that you must have the 739's volume set to max for the DTS bitstream to be recognized correctly by the Onkyo, but once it is, you're good to go.

The remote has stubby joystick button which is excellent for navigating DVD menus.

My TV only has a composite video input, so I have not been able to evaluate the player's S-video and component outputs.

This is an average product, which at the time was a great deal.
