Review 1 of 3

Price Paid:  $850.00 from Best Buys

Summary:
I bought the model 985a which is the same as far as I can see except for warranty. This is a great recorder easy to use, can record up to 4hrs. I use RW dvd's and can record over and over if I want. If you want to save your home moves this is the machine you want! I record off of a vcr And a high 8 vcr both record perfect.

Strengths:
easy to use, great picture,RW+ edit your titles on home movies

Weaknesses:
haven't found any yet

Review 2 of 3

Price Paid:  $945.00 from bestbuy

Summary:
Please note I bought the 985A which is almost equals to the 1000 I am writing here.?xD;?xA;I bought it at Bestbuy and they don't even carry the DVD+RW or DVD+R discs that this machine requires.?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;I have no choice but to return this unit after I test for 1 recording.?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;I found this machine is very easy to use. The recordings (direct from my miniDV machine) are very good. The DVD+RW(notDVD-RW) that I bought is from CompUSA. They don't even sell the DVD+R disc.?xD;?xA;Anyway, the test disc can be recognized by 2 of my Sony DVD players. At least they are compatible.

Strengths:
easy to use.o

Weaknesses:
hard to buy their discs.?xD;?xA;expensive discs.

Review 3 of 3

Price Paid:  $2000.00 from Schiphol airport Holland

Summary:
Attention. DVD+RWs will not play on my 2 year old Sony 725D player or on my DVD-ROM HP computer drive.
The video quality of my Sony 725D player ($750) is better than that of the Philips.
The Philips registration site has been down for a few days now.
From all other aspects the the DVDR1000 is better than my expectations and is competant. The remote control is fine. The recordings identical to the original.
I have purchased the DVDR1000 so as to archive CAMcorder tapes HI8 and miniDVs.
Attention also when recording from a video recorder. The DVDR1000 may go into "no signal" mode and no recording take place. I have written to Philips and await an answer. In the suggestions part on the manual is says control the control the level of the output!!! Whatever that may mean.

Strengths:
Quality of video recording

Weaknesses:
compatibility with DVD players

Similar Products Used:
DVD 725D for 2 years

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
