Review 1 of 3

Price Paid:  $230.00 from Good Guys

Summary:
I have had this unit for about 6 months now and I must admit I am really impressed. Due to Phillips association with Marantz, and since I have a Marantz reciever, I picked one up. It replaced my toshiba that what having a conflict problem with my reciever. The color difference and true detail that the Phillips displays is amazing. The toshiba as well as sony that I have had prior were not even close. And ofcoarse the HDCD decoder is great for cd playback. I stacked the unit up next to an adcom gdcd-700, and you could barly tell a difference!! So if you can get your hands on one of these I would greatly recomend it!!

Strengths:
Great Picture, Great Sound

Weaknesses:
Little Cheapy in design, remote sucks

Similar Products Used:
Sony, Toshiba, JVC

Review 2 of 3

Price Paid:  $200.00 from Good Guys Electronic

Summary:
I have had this unit for about two months now and so far so good. I replaced a Toshiba SD2700 due to a conflict with my Marantz Reciever, and because Marantz and Phillips are CO/products I figured this was my best bet. Also, there are few units on the market w/HDCD decoders, and I did not want to loose this option. The Phillips works great and there are no conficts at all!! The Picture is much better than any DVD player I have owned and the player offers several cool options, especially for the price point. I would Highly recomend this unit to anyone looking for a great player for around $200-$250.

Strengths:
Much Better Picture quality than my former Toshiba and Sony. Progressive Scan and HDCD to boot!!!!

Weaknesses:
The HDCD decoder is a little weak. Could be a little better made!!!

Similar Products Used:
Toshiba, Sony

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
