Summary:

I got this at a liquidation outlet. It was refurbished unit. The box was stamped a DVD 100B, but inside was a DVD 280. Lets say the clues to it's inherent cheapness are the remote and the photocopied users manual..I bought this as a present for my father who watches DVDs intermittently. Before delivering it to him, I decided to do a burn in test to make sure it functions properly. Left it plugged in for 2 hours, noticed the power supply light NEVER extinguishes. The unit is "off" - but in actuality, it's always in standby mode. Ran my hand on top of the unit and noticed it was quite hot. I removed the cover, and had a 2 dozen small louvers punched in the case at a local metal fabrication shop for a reasonable sum. I've used it for over two months so far it's worked well. Picture quality is not bad, and it can handle the Matrix. The Dolby Digital output is great - especially when you have a receiver that can handle it. For a grand total of 110.00 cdn ($70 usd) it's not bad. If you are going to purchase one of these units, it's HIGHLY ADVISABLE that you have the top cover modified to increase ventilation or these units WILL fail.

Strengths:
Inexpensive,Dolby Digital Coax o/p, Multi-region capable, Zoom, PAL or NTSC display capabilty.

Weaknesses:
No SVHS, Heat failure prone, cheap remote...
