Onkyo no-nonsense highest quality design that doesn't come with out of this world prices. The ultimate HDMI CD transport that also plays SACD very well.

Slow onscreen menu.

I bought this strictly as a transport due to its Direct Digital Path technology that's supposedly makes it the best transport there is without paying an arm. But this HDMI player also plays SACD which makes it a perfect one box solution to connect to my Panasonic SA-XR75 true digital amp. The price is just right, spending any more means investing in better exterior design and material but not sound quality.

Plastic remote and rubber buttons. I doubt the service life of the remote will equal that of the player itself.

This is the second Onkyo DVD player and fifth Onkyo product I have owned in the past eight years. The first DVD player lasted five years and was reliable and I expect no different from this unit. Audio output though only two channel compares equally favorably.
The primary jump in technology is the ability of this player to adjust in real time the input from a DVD to produce a high quality full screen picture from wide screen media and it's ability to remember where a movie left off should you have to stop and resume watching the movie later. Onkyo has outdone themselves with this product.
