Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $165.00 from AVOutfitters.com

Summary:
A nicely styled, low profile unit with many features in this price range. Performance has been very good, the only flaw being a tendancy to slip out of surround mode when changing disc layers. Nice remote, but the interface is pretty ugly and confusing.

Strengths:
Very good performance 90% of the time; low profile; full featured remote

Weaknesses:
Badly designed interface; menus available only when stopped. Has slipped out of surround mode when changing layers more than once.

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $150.00 from FutureShop

Summary:
Was in the market for a low-priced player. The features offered on this player are excellent; the manual is well designed (and information easily found); and the slim-line size was pleasing with my system.
Have hooked the player to a JVC AV36D201 television with good quality cables and the result is beyond what I expected. The 'D' series television works well with this player, sound is great - without a 5.1 setup (at least it is all my ears and eyes will need!).
The connection to component link resulted in a more pleasing result than S-video connection. Recommend as a basic unit, especially considering the price, the value is definitely there!

Strengths:
Bang for buck is rather impressive. Lots of features for budget player.

Weaknesses:
No MP3 playing ability

Review 3 of 4

Summary:
I don't know if my DVD Player is defective, it's a design flaw, or just not compatable with my Kenwood reciever. It doesn't happen all the time, but a lot of the time when skipping chapters, pausing the movie, or sometimes even on a layer change, I lose sound. The movie keeps playing, but no sound. Changing inputs on the reciever brings it back. I've tried using both the Co-ax and the optical connectors with the same problem. I tried a Sony DVD player to determine if it was the reciever's problem, but it's since worked flawlessly. Anyways, the JVC is going back.

But overall, this is a great little DVD player, especially for the money. The menus are simple to navagate, the remote is just about perfect, and the sound a picture quality are outstanding.

Strengths:
Lots of features for price

Weaknesses:
No MP3 support (If that's important to you), and problems with playback (See review summary)

Similar Products Used:
Sony, Kenwood

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $155.00 from Future Shop

Summary:
This has a lot of great features for an entry-level player. Has all the basic features you can think of (other than MP3 support), including all the necessary output connectors. The remote is great, and the onscreen interface is pretty slick.

Performance can be flakey, though; a disc with just about any physical imperfection is going to fail in this player. If you want to watch VCDs you created yourself, buy something else; but if you have to play burned VCDs in this player, use CDRW (just barely watchable with all the skipping).

Still, a good buy if you're spendthrift and you find it on sale.

Strengths:
Excellent price, especially for a brand name with all the features this player provides

Weaknesses:
Horrible VCD performance using CDR or CDRW; very finnicky with scratched discs
