Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $450.00 from Accent Sound

Summary:
What a stellar mid-priced performer. This unit does a solid, somewhat laid-back job with SACD and DVD Audio, and redbook CD sound is very listenable and coherent - especially for a player in this price range. The video was just average until I switched the video flag for the "BNC" connector to the ON position. Even thought I'm not using an actual BNC component video connector, quality improved very noticeably on my Sony 50" SXRD screen. It took the graininess out and delivered a very solid image. If your looking for a decent reasonably priced universal player, be sure to audition this one!

Strengths:
Good to excellent video for a non-upconverting player
Good CD sound
Plays SACD and DVD Audio
Excellent JPEG perfomance
Effective video adjustments
Solidly built

Weaknesses:
Cheap remote control - buttons are flimsy

Similar Products Used:
Pioneer DV-563A

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $450.00 from Accent Sound

Summary:
I am impressed with this mid-priced universal player. It does a good - though somewhat laidback - job on SACD and DVD-Audio, and its CD sound is credible and involving for a player at this price. Video performance was just average until I turned on the video flag for the BNC connection, which is odd since I'm not actually using a BNC component video connector. Just setting the flag to "On" really cleaned up DVDs on my Sony Hi-Def SXRD screen - really, really happy I discovered this little tweak. I'm thinking of investing in an actual BNC connector to see if it gets even better. A very nice picture for a non-upconverting player.

Strengths:
Good to excellent video (for non-upconverting player)
Decent CD sound at this price point
Good SACD/DVD Audio - quiet noise floor
Most discs very quick to start up when you hit "Play"
Sturdily built
Good JPEG performance

Weaknesses:
Cheap remote - buttons are somewhat flimsy

Similar Products Used:
Pioneer DV-563A

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $475.00 from Accent Sound

Summary:
What a solid performer fr a mid tier DVD Player. It has improved my vieing experience tremendously

Strengths:
Sharp, crystal clear transitions for DVD...even without upconversion! Easy to understand tools...even though I do use a Harmony Remote.

Weaknesses:
Price for no up conversion

Similar Products Used:
Toshiba DVD - about 1/4 of the cost of this player...and the INtegra blows it away.

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $500.00 from speakerlab

Summary:
Upgraded DVD player to end occasional lip sync problem and occasional progressive scan errors and the Integra DSP 6.5 was successful. Also wanted to explore SACD which is very nice although the digital coax play on the same SACD was awesome too-I was waiting for the 6 SACD cables. Very happy with the video picture using the component outputs to an older panasonic plasma edtv. I thought the old player had good video but the Integra video was a pleasant suprise and that is the reason for the max overall rating. If someone has an older dvd player that could be improved and they could just add analog cables for the SACD then this is a great choice. Otherwise you could save money by ignoring the universal players and just going for a newer dvd player since both the video and audio chips spec out faster on the newer models.

Strengths:
Played a poorly recorded CD and a nice SACD just fine as well as movies. Movies were brighter, could see more details than before. It is said to be a universal player. Has a 3 year warranty.

Weaknesses:
Has the same legalese warning that Denon has about progressive scan and HDTV compatibility on some undefined sets. Good reason to buy local for easy returns.

Similar Products Used:
Previous dvd player was a Philips DVD724 model year 2002 at about a fifth of the cost of the new player.
