Summary:
I purchased the GE5803P at Walmart for about 4 months. I have play about 100 CD and it''s work great. Below are Pro and Con which I found when test out the DVD player. Where is that power ON/OFF button????

Strengths:
Pro: 1) Play MP3, VCD, DVD, KARAOKE VCD, KARAOKE DVD, SVCD, Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW and Slideshow made by Nero. 2) The picture quality and sound are not bad. It''s froze twice but after clean the Cd seem to play normal. 3) When open... the tray spin slower than APEX5131, which prevent CD from getting stuck or flying out. 4) 3 disks DVD which is great for watching more than 1 movie.

Weaknesses:
Con: 1) No Power button on the remote. This is suck!! I am not sure why GE care about the dimmer display button. It''s should be more useful as a POWER ON/OFF button. 2) Only display 8 characters for MP3 tittle(AFSDFDTD). 3) The tray hold the CD should be deeper and the disk # should be white or other color for easy to see. 4) The design is too simple.

Summary:
This review is for GE 5803P. The GE 5803P work very well for me. I bought itS in the end of 2001 and have not had any problem. It even play home make SVCD slideshow from my computer. I did consider APEX AD5131 but didn''t purchase its because of a) Disk spin too fast when tray open can cause jam b) Too many defect and unrealiable.

Strengths:
1) Sound and picture quality. 2) 3 disks system, does allow to change disk while watching DVD movie. 3) Play DVD, VCD, CDR, CDRW, SVCD, and may be DVDRW. It also play Karaoke VCD and DVD with no problem.

Weaknesses:
No power on/off on the remote. There is a useless DIMMER button. Slow loading

Summary:
I now have an Emerson Ewd7001 Dvd Player. It plays nothing fancy was less than 100.00. I got my money's worth I think ( OH PS: it won;t play the new disney movie Atlantis..compatibility problem says disney) anyhow I got this one becasue my crappy GE had a mind of it's own, It would take sometimes up to 1 hour of opening and closing and power on and off to get something to play , then if I was real lucky after all of that and just getting into the movie, It may continue to run and not freeze up. Well I got so mad I stuck it under the bed and went and got a 100.00 player. Which was doing fine ( but if you forget to turn it off, it overheats and then you have to unplugg it for several hours to get it to do anything ( this is the emerson). I can live with that though, I mean I got what I paid for with the emerson, It works more often than the GE did.

But as a word of good fortune for the GE, After about an hour of playing with it I did Get to See Disney's Atlantis.

Strengths:
plays 99.9% of the movies

Weaknesses:
remote is ugly, hard to use, overheats when left on and you have to unplug it for several hours to use it again

Picture is too dark!
Tv has brightness and Contrast all the way up and playback is still too dark!

Summary:
stay away from sears or any garage sale dvd players and DO NOT get a loan from the bank for junk like this

Strengths:
it started the first time i used it and has lights and stuff on it

Weaknesses:
sounds like a garbage truck when running,and sometimes hops around the coffee table and chases my wife around the living room
