Strength:

State of the Art Connections, Anti-resonance case, Overall Build Quality, Progressive Scan Capability.

Weakness:

Poor Remote, Not fully DTS compatible.

Straight out of the box, the Faroudja DV-1000 is a force to be reckoned with. The unit is very heavy and the build quality is first class. The front of the unit has the features to a minimum (which I like) and has an top notch disc tray and motor. The remote is built by Toshiba and is the only serious disappointment with this DVD Player. The rear audio connections are state of the art, from AES/EBU balanced, ST-Glass Optical and a SPDIF RCA Coax (flexibility and quality). The Video connections allow for Composite, Component and RGB (all true 75ohm BNC Connections) and S-Video (mini DIN Connection). This is maximum flexibility and results in spectacular video reproduction on component and RGB connections. The lack of full DTS maybe a problem for some, but this DVD Player's quality performs exceptionally well in Dolby Digital that the problem is not significant. This unit also has dual laser beams one for CD playback and the other for DVD. This allows this player to be a true CD and DVD Player that has no trouble with CD-Recordables or CD-RW. If quality, attention to detail and spectacular video/audio reproduction are what you are looking for-this is the machine. This player is no longer being produced by Faroudja due to poor sales and its initial hefty tag price. However demo units and clearouts can be found from $2500-$3500 U.S. which makes this DVD Player a great buy. Just for audio CD reproduction alone, it rivals many audiophile stand alone CD Players. The value is 5 stars, and I give it an overall of 4 stars due to the poor remote and DTS compatibility.
