Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $159.00 from Circuit City

Summary:
I was always hesitant about getting an Apex product because of the low cost, I have put that all behind me now. I shopped around for about a month looking at several models with progressive scan. The only model under $500 I could find that would play any format disk was the Apex.
The player was a little big but I'm sure that is to accomidate all the extras that are in this player. What more could you ask for? Built in Dolby 5.1 decoding, multiple disk formats, and control over every aspect of your audio and video settings. Incredible!
My gripe would be the remote, It isnt very comfortable, and the keys are not laid out all that well. My first suggestion is to take the batteries that came with it and toss them right away. I was upset that I would have to point the remote directly at the player to get it to work, this was a problem for me since I use a front projection unit and my equipment sits behind me. Finally I put new batteries in and was able to bounce it off either the wall or my screen. Picture and audio quality are outstanding, if you are considering this model.. buy it!

Strengths:
Plays any format, incredible fetures

Weaknesses:
Remote is a little clumbsy

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $250.00 from Future Shop

Summary:
It may not be the prettiest dvd player out there, but looks can be deceiving. This dvd player will play mp3 files on cd for hours of music. It will play vcd will no problems yet and with the choice of either composite, s-video or component video output, the picture is great especially component. It has composite audio outputs and optical audio output also. This was the same price as another dvd player that was similar in features and looked better, but the firmware upgradable sold me. You can download a file from sites and burn it to a disc and turn off macrovision and region codes to name a few.

Strengths:
This dvd player does it all with no problems what so ever

Weaknesses:
Subtitles will come on when you selected them off but with a push of a button you can turn them off
