Price Paid:
$30.00
from XS Cargo Summary: Just purchased the Apex DVD AD-500W at the XS Cargo in Surrey, B.C. Canada on Boxing day, flyer item at $29.95. I was alittle unsure when most of these items at XS Carge are refurbished or returns and this DVD did not come with the Apex remote control. If I wanted one, they had a Universal 5 remote control for $15.00 which was reccommended for the on screen menu. They told me these DVD's still has all the manufacture warranty and were not all were repaired items . So, at that price I grabbed one, before they were all gone. I spent most of the next day trying to understand the DVD instructions in the manual and how to use the Universal remote. I'm still very confused with DVD instructions, to see a menu on my TV screen from the DVD or Remote. This is why I'm here, to find out more. Did all these units come without a remote control? If so, then how do you access the menu or setup on the TV from the DVD? Or, if only mine didn't come with the Apex remote, then how do I get one? Strengths: Too new, only used once. Weaknesses: Didn't come with Apex remote control with is hard to use the features of the DVD.

from wal-mart Summary: APEX was my first DVD player and for the past year it has been working beautifully (even with Disney DVD!)...up until about a month ago it starts getting all edgy on me. every time i insert a disc in it now im afraid that "No Disc" sign will show up. then i try opening and closing the thing about 5 times till i give up. i don't get it. I bought the thing in 7/25/02 and about a year later it starts acting like a picky snob. its f*#@ing irritating man... i can't even watch my pornos now lol. GRRRR!!..and worse.. I CANT EVEN WATCH MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE AND BILL & TED ANYMORE!!!..major bummer.... Strengths: blah blah...
its only good for about less than a year. Weaknesses: well the "lifetime gurauntee" thing really bites one in the sweaty sack.. Similar Products Used: THE IMPOSSIBLES RULES!!.... =/

Price Paid:
$119.00
from QVC Summary: The Apex AD500 was my 1st DVD player. I watched the QVC people on TV talk about how great it was & how they did all sorts of things with it.(ie zoom, slow motion, reverse, etc.) I ordered & received it & thought this was how ALL DVD players were.
I wish I had done more homework. I watch 2-5 movies a week on average. Here's a few things that are wrong.
1) No on/off button on remote, must be done manually at player!!!
2) Starts 99% of all movies with subtitles on!
3) Often takes 2-3 times to get subtitles off!
4)Skips very often even on SUPER CLEAN cd's or DVD's + even new ones.
5)Some disney plus on other movies the subtitles will NOT turn off.(Princess Diaries, Signs, Bad Company to name a few old & new ones)
6) 3 times I spoke with Apex & they could not offer a fix. One Cust Service rep admitted she had the same problem on one of the movies as I did.
7) The last time I spoke to Apex (4th time) & they know about the problem. Finally they told me my DVD player was old technology & offered an upgrade for $39 which you can buy for $59.NO DEAL!!!
"Fool me once, shame on you! but
"Fool me twice,shame on me!!"
I will NOT buy another Apex product!!! Strengths: It did play DVD's,MP3's & CD's as advertised Weaknesses: Poor Quality, even less quality in Customer Service, WOW a lot,see the 7 items in summary Similar Products Used: Have reached my limit & am shopping now for a new one. I will do my homework this time.

Price Paid:
$99.00
from Circuit City Summary: I bought this DVD player and didn't expect anything to be wrong with it.
Boy was I wrong! It works great as long as you don't want to play any Disney DVD's
they wont work on this player.
And its a known problem and APEX wants to trade it for another DVD player for the low, low, price of $39 and the model I will get for that price is only $59
WOW what a deal huh?
I'll never buy another APEX product again their Tech support sux! Strengths: NONE Weaknesses: Doesn't play all formats
Especially Disney
