Price Paid:
$60.00
from Glasgow Summary: I picked these up fairly cheap (£60) so they were good value.
they are kind of my first more 'serious' headphones. comparing them to my HD 202 i can really see the phenominal difference in quality.
true my equipment is ancient! (1980s B & O)
but i would highly recommend them to someone whos apprehensive about paying £hundreds for a set. Strengths: TOO COMFORTABLE!
you may forget your wearing them!! Weaknesses: breaks up a little too early.
amongst classical and jazz music i also love hardcore dance/trance and they arent very well suited to that. granted i may be expecting a little too much there... Similar Products Used: HD 202, demod HD 570 symphonys (i chose these over them)

Price Paid:
$0.00 Summary: Great inexpensive open air headphones, headphone amp needed if you want to enjoy these at their fullest.Good rendition of fine detail, midrange quite clean and open(not up to HD580/600)but still in the very good departament.Bass performance is very satisfactory after break in,and if headphone amp is used bass performance is great. These can be enjoyed by audiophiles and music lovers, not for boosted bass freaks or yuppies. Strengths: Great price(paid under $150),lightweight,can be used for hours on end with no "red ears" effect. Weaknesses: Clowns like JL who need brain surgery and a bit of common sense.JL get more woofers in your subcompact car and add 5000W amps, you'll feel better in no time. Similar Products Used: Sennheiser HD495,HD580,HD600,Grado RS1,Grado 325 and 125

Price Paid:
$300.00
from Oakville Audio Summary: These cans are fantastic! What can I say. The detail reproduced here is unbelievable. Someone mentioned how they spoil some music by revealing its errors.... this is true. And rediscover favourite albums! I find these headphones at perfect mix. The Sony's I use seem to lack the mids. I am not a fan of BIG bass.... these cans reproduce bass at a realistic and authentic clearity and drive. The cable is something I hope they redesign... and the headphones themselves I feel like I am always babying. Perhaps added ruggedness wouldn't hurt. A lot of cash but definetly worth it! Strengths: Brilliant clearity. Well balanced. Detail detail detail! Weaknesses: Cable connection, cable durability. Similar Products Used: Sony MD series

Price Paid:
$229.00
from Campsie Hi Fi - Australia Summary: Since reading the various reviews in the English Hi-Fi magazines I've lusted after a pair of these headphones. The HD565 Ovation's cost $ 499 AUS and I was always trying to save up for them but always managed to talk myself out of them because I thought I wouldn't use them enough to warrant the cost. ( my main Hi-Fi system cost approx $ 12,000 AUS to put together ) Campsie Hi Fi had a special run out of these great headphones at $ 299 AUS, I said stuff it and bought them and haven't looked back. The great thing about these headphones are their accuracy and it's imaging ability. Play Mike Oldfield's later Tubular Bells III on these and you'll be blown away. It's got it all and in the right amount and places - treble, mids and bass. If anything, these great headphones may make bad recordings sound a tad worse. These wonderful 565 Ovations are no longer being produced, what a shame - but I believe sometimes you can still get factory re-furbished ones direct from Sennheiser. Get one if you can and enjoy listening to your music collection all over again !!!! Yes, it's that good !!!!
What is JL talking about ? Is he for real ? How can you talk about headphones and 12" subs and make a fair comparison. I don't what he uses to listen to music with, but it certainly not his ears. JL, stay locked in your car and keep listening to your thumping techno crap coming from the sub and leave the Audio analyse to those who have open minds.
Damn the expense, wife or mistress - just buy the HD565 and listen to the music !!!!!!!
Strengths: Good build quality, comfortable for long listening sessions, Very good bass, treble and imaging. Weaknesses: Cable connection at base of headphone Similar Products Used: Sennheiser HD 475, Sony MDR's, various Koss
