Strength:

Very warm sound Strong, deeply extended bass Dark sound in OTL mode that responds extraordinarily well to parametric EQing as well as environmental sound in soundblaster cards like the Audigy, Audigy 2, and Audigy RX when paired with a good DAC from optical Toslink output from cards EQing with Soundblaster cards with classic EAX effects: bass EQ's strongly does not clip. EQing highs sounds slick and sweet with no harshness at all at even extreme levels. Smooth midrange with excellent resolution in all frequencies when paired with HD600, HD650 and Audeze LCD-3. Remarkably high resolution when paired with dynamic headphones with warm, dark, tube friendly sound. VERY large soundstage with open-back headphones as listed above. Ridiculously simple and inexpensive hardware which is easy to fix, and responds awesomely to tube rolling. Small enough to fit on most desk setups. IDEAL as hell for techno and death metal. VERY musical. The exact opposite of "analytical" sound, so meant for music ENJOYMENT not analyzing music for reference mastering

Weakness:

No balanced input/output, Sound in transformer coupled mode sounds terrible, so only use in OTL mode. OTher than that, no complaints.

Strength:

Build quality / musicality / sound stage / Music seems to come out of a total void.

Weakness:

In my opinion, It doesn't have anyBut I do recomend a tube swap to Telefunken NOS with silicone dampers.

I Have tested a few headphone amps(X-can,ps audio g series) and the ASL MKIII is the one that makes my cans "smile". The sound stage is simply dynamic, The clarity and warmth are outstanding and I wouldn't part with it for anything. For the money it's worth every penny. The build quality and ease of operation are equal to it's musicality. This is my favorite piece in my system. If you are having any thoughts about purchasing another headphone amp dont waist your time, This little amp DELIVERS ! Contact me for further discussion.
