Strengths would be to me at least they look cool in a bed room, they are also considerably cheap, but they have decent bass and okay midrange

Paper cones. All the cones are made of paper, and if you did not know paper is easaliy distorted, this causes distorted sound. Also the drivers of the cones are small, so they do not have a good sound, I have four other speakers hooked up and only now do they sound good. Also if you want treble these are not for you. (Only have these because I got them for free)

Low frequency. Blends well (phanton centre). Still a performer after all these years. Loud.

Highs. Looks.

I've had these speakers for some time now. The have 10" and 4" (I think) paper cone woofers and a paper tweeter as well. Right now I'm using them as fronts in my home theater setup and I use them for music as well.

These are surprisingly good for what they are. I've been considering upgrading for a while. After listening to a Diana Krall song on many different high end speakers in stores (Paradigm, Energy, Totem), I went home and popped in the same song. I could easily pick up on where the other speakers were better, but I wasn't as dissapointed with the Technics as I expected. What's nice is I haven't had to splurge for a sub yet because these things make more than enough bass. The tweeter does a pretty bad job of making nice highs. They just don't sound as sweet as a speaker with a dome tweeter or something quality. At least it's not harsh or overly bright like some cheap tweeters are.

I've been using them to create a phantom centre channel on my HT system and I really do hear the voices coming from the TV. Although without using rear speakers for surround, everything sounds like it's from the front of the room. For HT, these things have serious volume. My 80watt receiver (Onkyo TX-SR575) at 75% can push these things so hard during the Matrix helicopter / Morpheous scene that the gatling gun shakes the walls. And it's not just noise, it still sounds very good.

As you can see I've rated these 2/5. Not because they suck but because everybody gives every speaker 4/5. And if they're really good then they get a 5/5. Most speakers can produce nice sound, where a speaker lacks I'm very critical. You can probably pick these up for less than $75 at a garage sale and they'll kill anything at a store for less than $250. I've compared these to Energy RC70 and I'm willing to say other than high end reproduction these Technics aren't to far behind.
