Panasonic PT 42PD2 P Flat Panel Televisions

DESCRIPTION

The PT-42PD2-P offers a huge 42"" (diagonal) screen that's only 3.5"" deep and weighs in at a super-lightweight 73 lbs. That's just a fraction of the depth and weight of a standard CRT television. It can even be hung on a wall to save space. To help you display your Panasonic plasma monitor, a pedestal stand is included. For further installation options, an optional floor stand, angled wall-hanging bracket and detachable stereo speakers.

Strength:

Breathtaking picture with HDTV input, merely expectional with DVD and digital cable.

Weakness:

Sketchy, often uninformative manual. BNC adapters needed for component inputs.

First of all, in doing research on these plasma screens I found that they have dozens of different model numbers with the slightest differences between them. To be clear, my plasma is a 42" Panasonic model TH-42PWD4-UY, so I'm not even sure I'm reviewing in the right category. That being said, this plasma screen is simply incredible. The picture quality in almost all situations is crystal clear and vibrant. Of course, much depends on the input source so there can be some variance in picture quality. However, with the best HDTV sources (like HDTV digital cable) the picture is breathtaking. It also performs exceptionally well with DVD movies. There are only a few downsides: a crummy manual, in some situations the HDTV decoder can't keep up with the action and you briefly see a squarish pixel pattern when the action switches scenes, and they charge outrageous sums for wall mounts and table stands. My table stand, which is made of simple cast metal, cost $300! Overall, however, this is a beautiful product.
