I want to ask three questions. Can I connecte any speakers without using an amplifier? Can I connect speakers for 5.1 designed for pc? Can I do something so as to enable my d-636d reading mp3 and mpeg. Thank you.

    Strength:

Play CD-R, CD-RW, VCD and Multi Zone DVDs. Very good value for money. Nothing measures up for price versus performance.

    Weakness:

None thus far......except, of course, the obligitary whinge about the remote....

Very Happy with this purchase. Excellent picture and sound quality, with the added bonus of sound format selectable via the front of the player. Very easy to use configurable on-screen menu and a delight to play DVDs on. I have teamed the Pioneer up with my new Onkyo TX-DS595 and it sounds awesome. As the Onkyos remote is fully programmable, I dont use the Pioneer one, and its just a matter of remembering where you programmed everything....Very cool feature is the Condition Memory that remembers all the settings of up-to 15 DVDs, all by pressing one button.

    Strength:

    SOUND! PICTURE! PRICE!

    Weakness:

It gives the impression of being slightly flimsy construction wise especially around the disc tray and on/off button

Better than the Nad for sheer sound. It rocks my cd collection and plays a mean dvd. It also has disply shutdown and a funky blue light below the disc tray.

If you love music and dvd this is one for you. Get it form Richer Sounds (they also give a healthy amount of cash to charity per sale!) So, buy a dvd player and give to charity at the same time.

    Strength:

    Number of outputs, build

    Weakness:

    None that worries me

I researched a lot of DVD players before I decided to buy this one. Someone warned me of the whirring sound that the drive is sometimes akin to, but fortunately I have faced no such problem.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this DVD player has won the Supertest award by What Hi-Fi 2000, so you can't go very wrong with this model. I have a HT setup with a fine receiver in Denon AVR-5800, and you know what, I can use the the decoder buit in the DVD and not tell the difference.

    Strength:

    Great sound, great picture

    Weakness:

    Somewhat noisy.

Makes an annoying whizzing sound, kind of like a refrigerator... especially on rental DVDs. I rarely hear it on my own DVDs, though, but I can't understand why it's so sensitive.

Not noticable, though, when playing noisy movies.

    Strength:

Pin-sharp picture, on-board decoders that rival just about anything and ease of use.

    Weakness:

    Nothing significant

This is a great improvement on the 515. It comes with very extensive socketry, DD and DTS decoders and it plays CDR's! The remote has been tweaked (trick play still very basic) and there's a cool blue light! Don't know what it means, bit there you go. I have it hooked up to a Sony STR 930 with Tannoy MX floorstanders, centre and surrounds. Try watching Pitch Black on DTS, wow!

It is competent in stereo but cannot match a £200 + amp.

    But I like it.

    Strength:

Good overall performance, plays CD-R and CD-RW. Satisfying hifi sound quality and nice look. Built in decoder for Dolby digital and DTS.

    Weakness:

none for this price (perhaps a little bit noisy, when reading the discs)

This machine does its work well in every aspect for this relatively low price. It plays CD's in stereo very well, even compared with my new cd/sacd-player SONY XB940 (The CD-player is of course better, but not as much as one would think).

The picture is fantastic even as I have an 8 year old TV (will be uppgraded soon, very soon...). The built in decoder works well together with my SONY TA VA8ES amplifier witout decoder. A really good purchase for those who dont want to spend a fortune on a DVD-player with built in decoder for Dolby Digital and DTS.

    Strength:

Sweet picture/sound quality, plays everything you chuck at it, Analog 6 channel output DTS/Dolby Digital decoder built in, easy to use, Great connectivity

    Weakness:

    no Karoke

Best investment I have made so far. The picture quality is awesome, the sound clean and crisp and it has a blue LED!. Since I don't have a dolby Digital/DTS on my receiver, the player is connected through the discrete 6 channel input (Yamaha RXV-493). Within minutes I was surrounded by the DTS sound from the DVD movie "Gladiator" . This player absolutely kanes, and also has the benefit of a built in 6 channel DTS decoder which most players dont have. Highly recommended
