Where are the reviews for the DV-353? I am looking fo buy either the Pioneer DV-353 or the Panasonic DVD-RV32 from Cruthfield but cannot find any reviews for either?

Strength:

quite a few features for the price

Weakness:

you get what you pay for, subpar quality

I thought this was a great player the 1st 3 months I had it. Now I hate it. For a couple of weeks the picture began to be jittery, then it quit playing DVDs altogether.

This DVD player is terrific at playing VCDs and Super VCDs. It plays everything I've tried on it, including some VCDs with audio menus and chapters that didn't work with my friends' Panasonic RV-31 (otherwise a terrific DVD player). It also played some SVCDs that caused the Pioneer DV-444 to stutter, which leads me to believe that the 343 can handle higher bitrates than the 444, oddly enough. A look at the specs from VCDHelp.com appears to confirm this suspicion. I'd originally purchased the DV-444 but its problems with my SVCDs prompted me to take it back and get the 343 instead (a shame because otherwise I LOVED the 444.) VCD and SVCD playback were very important to me so I'm glad this player handles them so well.

I've had a couple of DVDs freeze up on me in this player, right around the 1h10m mark (the Matrix, Sixth Sense). Close inspection revealed a VERY slight smudge on the Sixth Sense DVD. The Matrix looked perfect. Nevertheless, once I cleaned the DVDs they played fine. I wonder if the error correction in this DVD player isn't as good as some? Haven't encountered problems with any other DVDs yet though, including many rental DVDs.

Audio and video quality are great, even without using the component video outputs. It has both an optical and coaxial output so I use one to plug into the DVD player input and the other to plug into the CD player input on my receiver (a Yamaha RX-V620).

The only drawbacks of this player in my eyes are that it is noisy (which is pretty annoying during quiet parts of movies) and that it can't play MP3's.

Otherwise it's a great player. For the price, it's an absolute star.

Strength:

Plays Anything (even MPG in UK) / Great Value For Money

Weakness:

No RGB, Small Remote + Only Digital Coaxial or Phone output in UK

Plays almost everything and great value for money. If only they had given it RGB output it would be perfect. Also plays Mpeg (which from reading posts in the US it seems it does not come so there). Would recommend it to anybody as a good starter machine.

Strength:

Very FAST load times. Played ANY CDR /CDRW I gave it. Solid interfact good remote.

Weakness:

Firmware is buggy IMHO. After playone one of my VCD's. The tray went into a loop I'll explain in the summary.

Great Player no complaints except 1. Firmware seems buggy. After playing a VCD which played fine. I couldn't play anything else. Every time I ejected the tray, it would immediately go back in. I quickly put in another CDR/VCD to try to play no luck. I put in a DVD and pressed play about 20 times, it finally took and everything has worked fine since. There is a way to 'RESET' the dvd player by a certain button combo on the front but I've not tried that yet. I think they just need to test their firmware more. Other than this one time glitch, player rocks!!!!

Strength:

IT PLAYS EVERYTHING!!! Good price, quick load, easy to use, good video and audio output.

Weakness:

Can't think of anything.

I use this player as my 3rd DVD player (as set-top player anyway, not considering DVD players in the computers) for my bedroom. I've tried CD-R and VCD on this player, and both formats played seamlessly. But, to my utmost surprise, this inexpensive machine actually plays DVD-RW disc that I've just produced. I think it should be safe to assume that it'll play DVD-R just as well knowing DVD-R's even more compatible with set-top DVD players.

For the price, this machine's highly recommended by me.

Strength:

Great DVD playback, DTS decoding, excellent VCD and SVCD playback.

Weakness:

Tray noise, thats the only thing that hurt the score for this system. The remote is a bit weird too.

This DVD player is a great product for the money invested. Its played any and all VCDs and SVCDs that I've thrown at it. Bitrate starts to stutter for SVCD at about 2300 kbps and over. The picture and audio from DVDs are wonderful. The one big fault this player has is that it has excessive tray noise. Thats what really hurt the score I gave it. If not for the tray noise both the Value and Overall would be a 5. As it is its a good DVD player for the money, definitely gonna upgrade it though because the tray noise gets annoying if your watching a movie at a low volume (like at night).

ONE HELLUVA PICTURE,PICTURE MODES REALLY WORK,AND PLAYS EVERYTHING THAT YOU THROW AT IT.

Weakness:

LOAD TRAY IS REAL NOISY WITH CERTAIN DISK E.G.TERMINATOR 2,AND THE REMOTE IS TOO DAMN SMALL(I HATE THAT)

THIS MACHINE IS DEFINITELY WORTH THE MONEY;IN TERMS OF WHAT IT DOES.IT CAN PLAY EVERY 5IN DISK THROWN AT IT AND IT HAS A VERY FAST LOADING TIME.IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR AN INEXPENSIVE DVD PLAYER..LOOK NO FURTHER!THIS MACHINE IS IDEAL FOR JUST ABOUT ANYTHING.THE ONLY THING THAT I REALLY DONT LIKE IS THE NOISY TRAY WHEN CERTAIN DISK ARE LOADED.AND IT ONLY MAKES NOISE DURING THE MENUS.AFTER TEH MENU IS GONE...NO MORE NOISE.SO,TO MAKE THIS SHORT...GET IT IF YOU CAN.
