Review 2 of 6

Price Paid:  $370.00 from AudioVideo Unlimited

Summary:
Techincs is a company built upon reliability and performance and those traits show in this player. the value and performance that composes their line of home electronics is ideal for both the audio entusiast and the casual family listener. the product is reliable and easy to use and comes with an excellent instruction manual and is very simple to setup, even my mom could do it.. seriously consider this player, especially if you use cdrecordable discs, as i have yet to encounter a cdr brand or color that this player would not play.

Strengths:
Excellent sound quality high voltage pre-outs and digital optical outputs are geared for the audio enthusiast. THE ABSOLUTE FASTEST cd changer i have ever owned, the disc platter is a rotational 5 disc tray that spins in both directions so that the disc requested by the user is accessed in as little amount of time as possible, it also has an excellent laser beam pickup, reading both scratched cds and audio CDR's out of my computer flawlessly, the layout of the button panels are detailed but not cluttered and very easy too use. a big bonus is the dual color led lighted button that allow quick access to any disc, but changes color when the disc is playing. this feature is a must for anyone who wants too know what numbered disc is playing form across the room whether at a party of your favorite arm chair.. forget the little lcd screen that most players use..

Weaknesses:
the only thing that has ever bothered me about this player is it's tendancy to skip the cd's when extensive bass notes are played... this must be due to a bad mechansim on which the cd is held internally, my 10" subwoofer is situated only 5 feet away from the unit and it took 4 foam block under the feet to hinder the skipping

Similar Products Used:
technics home theatre reciever which is a matching unit and the remote from the AV reciever works the cdplayer as well.

Review 3 of 6

Summary:
I own PD1000, which is very similar, but has a digital out and a couple of improvements. I really like the fact that I never had any problems with it. It never failed me in five years, the CDs even with major scratches were read effortlessly. It is good for parties too, because even with people jumping very close and shaking the table it never skips a bit (not so with other CD players I tried - people really lose the drive to dance when the song skips!). I bought it because it was featured as "Best Buy" in Consumer Reports in 1994-1995, never has to regret my purchase.

Strengths:
Very dependable, never failed to read a disc, very fast, ergonomic, 1play4exchange design.

Weaknesses:
No major weaknesses

Review 4 of 6

Summary:
Great unit. Great sound, very reliable. I've never had trouble reading a CD or EVER skipping in the couple of years I've owned it. I've played it just about every day I've had it, for an average of about 2 hours, and it's great. The pitch control is great for musicians. It's billed as a DJ tool, but I don't know why - it's great for tuning up songs that are recorded in Eb, to play along.

Honestly couldn't ask for more.

Strengths:
Features. Pitch Control. Reliability.

Weaknesses:
I (personally) liked the old Technics CD remote better, but that's just me. Startup on power-up is slow - it goes through every disc in the carousel - sometimes twice.
