Price Paid:  $234.00 from eBay auction

Summary:
If you like editing your own MD's that is simple and less costly, this is for you. I use it professionally as well as for home use. The MJ-17D does most what more expensive equipment does, but for the home theatre friendly consumer, budget-wise and technical-wise. And it's part of Pioneer's Elite line so you know time and effort was put into manufacturing it. A very sturdy, weighty piece. The editing features are pretty quick and simple. Most of what you need is only a couple of pushes of the button away. By adding Dolby Noise Reduction, it keeps analog sounds to a more digital sounding format. Great for transfering those older records or cassettes onto MD. Generally, it's a very well made item, but with the "Elite" name, it is quite pricey. If you can find one on eBay, or anyplace where you can obtain one, get it, it's worth it.

Strengths:
outstanding digital output ease of recording and editing sturdy construction

Weaknesses:
Honestly, you're better off getting the MJ-D707, which was 95% the same thing, and hundreds cheaper.

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
