Description: The SACD DSD Single-Chip Decoding in the PD-D6 reduces the digital circuitry signal path length, creating brilliant noise-free sound. An extremely stable, high performance Low-Jitter crystal oscillator circuit serves as a highly precise master clock for sound reproduction. Equipped with an aluminum front panel and an original professional readout mechanism with smooth loading. Pure Audio listening mode switches off the digital circuitry and display for a clean and detailed analogue sound reproduction.

Summary:
This is an excellent CD player. You will throw away poorly mastered CDs rather than listen to them on a player this clear (which reminds me, I need a new copy of Prince's Purple Rain).
It is bright in the highs without being shrill, warm in the mids so long as the CD is, and punchy in the bass ditto.
SACD is a revelation. Damn, I wish that format would take over.
I am currently using it with Polk RTi A3 speakers (soft sound) and an old Musical Fidelity A1 mk3 class A low-volume beauty. The combo is awesome if you don't want to run a nightclub.
I have also run it in my main system with the matching Pioneer A9 amp, where it provided plenty of punch. However, it required warm speakers to deliver in that combo.
It was the PD D6 that made me realise how much impact the front end can have on a system. Guess there is no point amplifying rubbish, and every point plugging this in to your amp.
So why not five stars?
At very low (falling asleep) levels I can hear the tray whirring. Unforgivable in a machine of this price but perhaps it is just my one.
