I was looking to replace a now almost historic Rotel / Little bit (DT and DAC) combo and finally decided to do so after buying a some new speakers. I listened to a variety of other CDs from the Musiacal Fidelity X Ray (am using M.F. amplification) to the Arcam FMJ and various lesser Arcam models, Cyrus, etc. At the end of the day, I was won over by both the articulate nature of the CD1 and its ability to capture the timbre and texture of voice, guitar and piano - no better exemplified than on B Tribe's i Spiritual Spiritual, David Gray's White Ladder and various Diana Krall CDs. I found the CD1 able to brief life and space into these and other recordings in a manner that other - often much more expensive machines - simply could not match. For instance, the instruments on the B Tribe album have a stunningly tactile quality and sense of 'their own space'; yet the integration of sounds remains superbly musical. Consequently, I'm more than happy with this relatively little now player: it may not be the very latest and greatest technologically, but it conveys the very essence of music, especially on good quality recordings (though it handles less well engineered products extremely well as well!) Strengths:
Imagery; tactile 'real' quality found in both voice and instruments; can be dynamic yet also handle the sublte textures of quite orchestral and acoustic pieces of music. Weaknesses:
Could do with a brighter display and indication of how long a track has to run. Similar Products Used:
