Summary:
Ihave in search of a high end cd player for several months. I guess like most of us who are kicking around this idea, what to buy a SACD player or a great redbook player. I chose the great redbook player that has the opportunity to be upgraded in the future. This player without a doubt is a good as it gets. I have been listening to and owned Accuphase, Meridan,Arcam, Shanling, dcs and Sony scd-1. My conclusion after all these listening seesions is the SACD is wonderful, however, it sounded wonderful because it was a great transfer to SACD. The SACD disks that were not transfered well quit frankly stunk. The dcs and Accuphase players are absolutely fabulous in both redbook cd's and sacd's. The only draw back was the dcs was around 20k+. I felt that getting a 7,500 player in the Krell KPS 28c for only 4,500 brand new was a great bargain. In reading Frank's review listed below, he was right on the money. This is a great player that throws off a great sound stage, clarity, quick response and one hellva sound.

Strengths:
everything that a great player provides.

Weaknesses:
none.

Review 2 of 2 , from Paramus NJ USA

Summary:
This Unit has been out for some time now but has few reviews. The Jan 2002 issue of HiFi News finally got to it(check news-stands)
This krell's build quality is the best I've encountered. The loading mech. is also excellent & the sonics are warm & inspiring. Paired up with Krell's Monoblocks & Sonus Faber's Amatis & you're in Audiophile Heaven. You may be also in major debt that set-up will cost ya.
The thing about the Krell is the Cast Tech which really requires the entire Cast set-up to make the system Gel.(check their site for complete details)
The cost of the KPS-28c is far too high in my opinion I own the KAV-280cd & Enjoy it's performance, the 28c's build blows it away and the price & Cast Tech does make a difference.
If you're willing & able to spend the $7500 for just a cd player then be certain to pair it with the corresponding Cast equip.& Cabling.
This is a must Demo Tech. Get to your Local Krell dealer & Have A Listen.......Frank's Sound Room 2002......
