Summary:
I purchased three of these units for a college radio station. A tough test, to be sure, as college students aren't always that careful with equipment. But these units were sold with the idea of using them in night clubs, and night club DJ's can be hard on gear too. As far as operation, they work great, when they are working. The machines are able to read almost any disc we feed them, even custom mix discs that the kids burned on their computers. The count down timer and the flashing display during the last 10 seconds of play is great to remind the operator that the song is almost over and you better have something else cued up or be ready with your backsell. The bad thing is, the player is just not that sturdy. CD 1 failed to eject after 11 months, but covered by the two year warranty. CD 2 also failed after 12 months with the same fault. CD 3 failed after 13 months but would not go into play. One year after CD 1 came back from factory repair, it developed the "would not play" fault, as well as the backlight for the display being totally burned out, making the display very hard to read. This problem was also repaired under warranty, just got in under the two year limit. All other samples then failed a second time (by now out of warranty) with a "Won't play, backlight burned out" problem. The turn around time for the repairs was between 2 and 3 weeks. Good thing that the station had 3 of them, so that they could be on the air with two players while the third was being fixed. Needless to say, my client was not happy (but they were the ones that went with the minimum bid) and I was not happy. Once the units started failing out of warranty, we junked them and replaced the players with more expensive machines. Bottom line: These might be OK for casual use, but for broadcast or heavy club use, spend the extra money on a more durable machine.

Strengths:
Rack mounted. Can play any disc, even custom burned discs.

Weaknesses:
Not durable. All three samples had to go to the factory for warranty repair and all three failed again out of warranty. Does not have +4 balanced outputs.

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
