Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Hallo ,

This is a stunning player , i think the best you can buy for the money and more!!! , i haerd some players twice and three times the price , but the 840c is still the best a man can get , awesome!!!.
And yes , the cinch / XLR makes a different , with XLR the sound is more wide and has a greater soundstage , also the bass has more power with the balanced output .
really a great player.

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
i reallize from all the anecdotal evidence that this cd player needs about a 200hour break in time.although somewhat constricted i,the sound stage was already wider than my previous player..the inner detail was very striking and clean.i can only assume that this will improve..in addition, the background was very quiet.i guess that -113 db down leads to that.the upsampling keeps the noise from any recording in the inaudible zone. i'm a believer.

Review 4 of 17

Price Paid:  $1350.00 from Soundstage Fine Audi

Summary:
It's too bad that people feel that CD is on its way out as this CD player truly shows that this medium was FINALLY coming into its own. After many frustrating years of digital noise (and owning some quite nice decks over the years) I can't believe what this unit is capable of.

First, let me say it is not the best... When I purchased this I had the opportunity to compare a number of players including my previous unit (a Rotel RCD-1072), this unit, the Rega Saturn (2008 model), the Ayre C-5xe and one costing ~25K (Analogue Arts I believe) all through Ayre electronics, Cardas cables and Totem Model 2 Sigs. It was SO easy to hear the difference - and it went like this:

Rotel RCD-1072 (no slouch but a distant, distant last)
Ayre CX-7e
this unit
Rega Saturn
AA
Ayre C-5xe

The Ayre C-5xe was so good I WISH I could have afforded it. But given that, I am not really that disappointed (one thing to note was that it was connected via balanced to the K1xe and everything else was RCA - so who knows). The Saturn was really just a smidgen better (more refined) but was $1000 more. I had the extra dough and could have went for it. It was a hard decision but really not worth the grand more I don't think.

Okay - all that said, I am one happy customer. And returning to my original thought I hope folks realize that CDs still have life yet. This proves it. But hey, if anyone wants me to give them 50c per disk (much like how vinyl disappeared 20 years ago - look at it now) I'm there :)

One more thing; I'm also a vinyl junkie. I have an MMF-7 that I use as much as my cd player and it's better. Not by much mind you...

What else can I say. I still buy CDs without regret. And look forward to getting them home...

Strengths:
Clarity, low level definition, dynamics, depth, digital in (which I use to connect to my computer), Balanced Out, PRICE, lack of problems, makes almost anything sound good...

Weaknesses:
Not the best... But who cares at this level of performance!

Review 5 of 17

Price Paid:  $1500.00 from Montreal

Summary:
Hi everybody, i bought my cambridge 840C three weeks ago. I will start by saying that this cd player need at least 200 hrs break-in time. Since that break-in is made, get ready for real music. I've tried many cd player in my life, from 100$ to 10 000$ cd player. I can tell you right now that you will need to spend 4000-5000$ to equal that player. This player is very neutral, you will hear the music like it should play when it was made, no less no more. I strongly suggest that you use the XLR cable for this player as well as good amplifier (i'm using a NAD M3 master series 2 x 180 Watts mono bloc and its very surprising for Nad equipement...) and good speakers (i use paradigm reference studio V40 wich are fine too). You will never find another player that will be better than this one at this price, it is a real bargain. The bass are deep and precise, the mid are stunning, you get into the music.

Strengths:
VALUE, music realistic

Weaknesses:
So far, for this price, dont know what to say... Maybe the "ordinary" look but then again, i dont care...
