Review 1 of 20

Price Paid:  $195.00 from Private party

Summary:
I actually just got this player today and have been listening non-stop. The sound is surprisingly close to my vinyl setup (which spanked my last CD player). Warm, yet detailed and vibrant sounding. Also, there were subtle flaws in some recording that were heard on LP I always assumed it was an imperfection on the LP. However, when I got this player the flaws were now noticeable on the CD as well! Of course everybody has a different idea of the perfect sound, but if your a vinyl person you won't be disappointed with this player.

Strengths:
Excellent build and sound quality. Can be found used for a good price. Not a mass market piece that will get thrown in the junk pile a few years down the road.

Weaknesses:
None.

Summary:
Best for price player. warm and musical. never had a problem with it. might get a similar sound though from a philips dac7 although cal is a lot richer. highs seem a bit rolled off

Strengths:
warmth, sound stage, analog sounding

Weaknesses:
might be on the dark side for some people.

Review 3 of 20

Price Paid:  $300.00 from sound seller

Summary:
Bought this unit new in 98'' and have never had a problem. For the $300 I paid for it nothing comes close. Of course, that was 98".

Strengths:
Warm, laid back, accurate

Weaknesses:
unforgiving to poor recordings

Similar Products Used:
Sony, Rega, NAD

Review 4 of 20

Summary:
This single player is an excellent value. After approximately 5 years of daily use I have never encountered any problems with either its performance or the easy listening it provides. Completely reliable. Best for classical, jazz, vocals or acoustic-centered music. Those who like a forward-sounding player may want to look elsewhere. Highly recommended !

Strengths:
Lush, warm sound, with detailed and wide soundstage, articulate bass.

Weaknesses:
A little laid back in its presentation

Similar Products Used:
marantz 67se, arcam 7e, rotel

Review 5 of 20

Summary:
It's a nice player. Have 800 series monstercable interconnects and speakerwire. Krell 300i amp and
b&w 805 matrix speakers on sound anchors. Occasionally
the player sounds harsh. Just in listening to the krell
300cd did i notice that There was information missing in
the cal dx-1. It just wasn't there. Has good bass extersion
nice sound stagging, the human voice can come across a
little cold at times. Depends on the cd. It is more for
rock and jazz, classical doesn't seem as pleasing on this
player.

Strengths:
Throws a nice sound stage, good detail, detail sounds much better now using vibrapods.

Weaknesses:
Upper midrange detail seems filtered out. Occasionally misreads disks, just open and close again and fine.

Similar Products Used:
Orginally had a cheap sony player. Have listened to the
krell 250cd and 300cd

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
