Strength:

Good battery life Great sound quality Has Audio out and Headphones ports which you don't find much anymore. Plays CD-R's Plays scratched cd's very well Durable

Weakness:

Anti-Skip does not work well for vigorous jogging Screen not backlit

I received this cd player in 1998 for my birthday and have used it since. It works very well and has good battery life. One way to help preserve it would be to turn off the anti-skip if you don't need it. I have used extremely scratched cds in it and it still reads them. I have long since lost the manual and am not sure how to utilize the "MEMORY/RECALL" button, but I still love this player. I even dropped it and had the cover pop off, but I was able to snap it back on and it works fine. Also, even after 7 years, the lid still springs open, which I have been told, often breaks on most players, requiring them to be opened manually.

Strength:

very well built, good sound, reads CDRs and scratched CDs. Decent battery life. Battery life is really good with NiMH rechargables (for an older player anyway).

Weakness:

The three second buffer is small (especially since 20-45 seconds seems standard nowadays

I got this player for X-mas of 1998, and have not had a problem (It is july 2003 at the time). I never expected it to last 4 1/2 years. We bought three, and 2 of them have been used to no end. as for the third, it has almost never been used, and skips on half of the cds in the house (even brand new ones). I found that very odd, because the other 2 read anything. In 1998 it was a very good deal. it has paied for it's-self several times over since then.

Strength:

its cheap, durable

Weakness:

every once in a while skips for no reason while sitting in one spot.

Sorry about the last review i have to update. my skipping problem was that my speakers were vibrating up through my dresser and making it skip. put it on some magazines and its fine now. I use it for my home cd player now. It does sometimes skip for no reason and im the only person whos had this problem on this model but it doesn't happen often enough to be a problem. ill giv it 5 stars to make up for giving it a bad review last time.

Strength:

good sound, looks good, very compact, lit lcd screen

Weakness:

skips all the time now, even with anti shock on and on a stationary surface. i've had it for one and a half years.

My model was actually the sl-s319c, and it was a great discman until about 3 months ago when it started skipping all the time, even with a brand new cd. I was just going to have it fixed, but it would have cost me about $160 when i only paid $90 for it. So now I'm going to buy another brand. It was a very good value, because it came witha car kit and headphones, but it just didn't last.

Strength:

It used to work good most of the time. It's cheap.

Weakness:

It didn't last very long.

I bought this discman in august, and it intermittently skipped for no reason at all, and now all it does it constantly skip and cut out, and this is hooked up to my stereo and not moving at all. I have to send it in on warranty now.

4 Kenwood portable cd players that all came with their only little defects, but only 2 of them totally failed and they lasted at least 6 months. Sony D-E446CK discman-works great still.

This is a good, basic CD player. The sound is very good, it uses Panasonic's 1-bit MASH DAC. The big difference between the SL-S200 and Panasonic's more expensive models is the anti-shock buffer. The SL-S200's is a less than impressive 3 seconds. Battery life is decent. If you can live with the minimalist anti-shock buffer, it's a pretty good deal. If not, spend the extra five bucks on the SL-S260. In any case, as with any portable, replace the bundled headphones with something better, immediately.

I just bought this exact cd player today. I like it a lot, after my experience with Kenwood portable cd player's (pure crap unreliable) i knew that my next player would be Panasonic. I wont be doing any running or jogging with it, but you cant do that with almost any cd player. I like the look of this cd player better than the SL-S260 (ugly).
I am no audiophile and i dont use expensive headphones. I am using Sony MDR-W08L verical in ear headphones and they sound great with this player. I tried to listen to the earbuds for a minute, and they hurt my ears so much i couldn't even try them out.
It hasn't skipped with the anti skip on yet, but all i've been doing is walking around slowly.
I bought it for $100 Canadian and it's a really good deal. If you dont have lots of money to spend get this player.

For some reason my review didnt go in the last time. I'll just say this, my review is the same as the last guys. This is a really good value, low price cd player. You pay a low price and get good quality and reliaiblity. I like the playy mode features on it way better than my old Kenwood with 40 second anti skip. It was a piece of crap that screwed up all the time. My Panasonic has worked flawlessly so far.

I take back my other review. I have had this discman for about 2 weeks now and sometimes for no reason at all while the player is sitting in one spot with no vibrations at all, playing a regular non scratched non homemade cd it will just skip every once and a while. I have no idea why. I thought Panasonic made good products. I have no idea what to do now.
