Review 1 of 1

Price Paid:  $150.00 from Audiogon

Summary:
It was by reading Stereophile recommended components, when i heard about this cable. The price was attractive, $300, single or biwire, at no additional cost and review was very good. At the time i owned Linn Majik integrated and Aci Sapphire II, with Linn K-400 cable. I have had LK-400, for almost 4 years, and it "survived" trial by MIT-4 and Audioquest Crystal. LK-400 was better cable in this particular system.
I wanted to upgrade speaker cable, so Discovery was first on my list. I found pair of 8 footers on Audiogon for $150. Another $45, for gold banana conn. and i was ready!
Cables were used, so i didn't have to worry about braking them in. Right out of the "box" they sounded fantastic! Detail was much better than excellent LK-400, but bass was what made world of difference between these two cables. Linn cable was balanced and fairly neutral, and somewhat "shy" or refined overall. Discovery didn't attempt to hide anything. Bass was extraordinary! Tight, deep and defined! and honestly, something never experienced in my system before.
Now i own Sonic Frontiers Control-1 poweramp with balance and volume control (not integrated)and now when i moved the quality of the amplifier for at least one "class" higher up, i can really appreciate the overall picture, and the quality of this cable.

ACI Sapphire II

And i must mention very important part of the system and that is two API EF 313 AC cords!
I believe Discovery 1 2 3 is probably the best cable you can buy up to $500 or even higher, almost in any system!

Strengths:
Neutral cable that will bring you "feast" of detail, and realisticly tight bass! The Best cable, maybe up to 1K?

Weaknesses:
Cheap looking, and not very flexible. Another proof that you cannot judge book by its cover!

LK-400, Audioquest Crystal, MIT-4 BIwire.

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
