My listening through a period of 20 years has seen me climb to the heights of running an LP12, Ittok, Troika, Kairn, Klout, Isobariks in the early 90's through to a slightly different but still pretty serious approach today. Present company is my trusty LP12 with Linngo and Linto and an Orofon Rohmann through a Unison Research SR1 amp and Opera Superpavarotti speakers. What I have given up in slam and clout has been replaced with delicacy, transparency and naturalness in spades (to my ears anyway). Until now I have eschewed expensive cables and over the years I have lived with QED 79 strand, Naim NACA4, Linn K20 and until this weekend Linn K400 bi-wire shot-gunned into single ends. Interconnect cables have always been Linn's own, black mostly and more recently Silver cables. During these years, my ears have become pretty tuned to what a component, the overall system and also the room are doing and I have listened to many different high-end set-ups. I have tried various CD players but never othered to buy one as it does not hit the quality of my vinyl set-up. This weeked, I borrowed some CableTalk Concert 2 and I am stunned. I read the thread on the Cable Talk 3.1 which did not inspire me with confidence and in my first five minutes with the Concert 2 I thought it was bass-light. However, I quickly realised that it was far more sophisiticated and that the mid-range, voices and high-end were fantastic. Such an insight and musicality and great separation of instruments. The bass was a little lighter than I was used to although the better the vinyl quality and recording the more depth the bass had and this matched if not exceeded the bass with my K400. The bass generally was dry, clean and more tuneful than I was used to. I found myself turning up the volume simply because I could without being unsociable i.e. it hit the G-spot with great dynamics and musical impact without it getting over-bearing! I have read audioreview for a couple of years but have not posted any thoughts until now. I do so because I get the impression Cable Talk cables deserve and respond to quality systems and anyone having read the 3.1 review which is so mixed someone reading that and then looking to see if thoughts are the same might just welcome a different perspective. By the way I threw everything at the Concert 2 from heavy rock, soft rock, trad jazz, modern jazz, modern country to classical to pop. Strengths:
