Actually, this review is aimed at the Oval 14 Theatre's sibling, the Oval Clear which is also 14 gauge with a clear housing instead of white.
I've been intrigued by the Analysis Plus line partly because I owned a pair of VonSchweikert VR4 speakers and I am aware of the great reviews being given to those who have had Albert upgrade them to the VR5 mod specifications. As part of the modification, Albert had expressed that Analysis Plus wiring is used in that process and the overall expections have been tremendous.
I've decided to put together a bare-bones audiophile system for my bedroom and started with uncommonly low-costed components including Antique Laboratory System AV-8 monoamps and currently use a Creek OB-14 preamp/DAC to power a set of NHT Superzeros that I owned over 10 years ago.
With plans to upgrade the speakers to the new Triangle Titus 202s (new version of XS), I simply threw the components together using Radio Shack Theatre Gold interconnects (the well-rated ones) and their 14 gauge speaker wire. Right off the top the sound was way to bright and 2 dimensional likened to staring into the sun without sunglasses (very unpleasant) and I knew it wouldn't work.
However, upon the arrival of the Analysis Plus Oval Clears, the sound was much more detailed and defined and actually made it enjoyable listening to the Superzeros. The comments I acquired from all knowledgeable salespersons indicate the a fairly substantial break-in time is needed for these cables but if they are this good right now, it will be worth the wait to see how they will match with the Triangle's next month. Workmanship is first class for an entry level cable.
