AudioQuest NRG-1.5 Power Cables

AudioQuest NRG-1.5 Power Cables

DESCRIPTION

THE CHALLENGE: No matter how perfect an AC power source, distortion is added within any cable carrying AC, especially within any stranded cable. Even the most sophisticated power supplies and filters cannot completely eliminate these upstream irregularities.

THE SOLUTION: NRG-1.5 uses solid Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC) conductors in a Quad-Helix configuration. Solid conductors prevent strand interaction, which is the greatest single source of distortion in an audio cable or in an AC power cable. The nearly perfect surface finish and interior grain structure of PSC copper dramatically reduce distortion compared to OFHC or other metals. The Quad-Helix spiral creates a fixed low-inductance relationship between conductors.

NRG-1.5’s two RF Stoppers filter Radio Frequency Interference in both directions. They reduce outside interference entering the equipment, and they prevent equipment generated interference (as from all digital equipment and tuners) from reaching other equipment in the system.

Strength:

Properly shields agains RFI. It has a ferrite noise stopper on both ends, to prevent RFI from going into the digital audio component AND to prevent any RFI dgenerated by the digital component from entering the external power suppy,

Its counter spiraled star-quad, solid core design has great noise canceling properties.

Weakness:

The C7 connecter is not polarized (i.e., there are no markings for the live and neutral). If you component requires a polarized plug, you would need to use a multi-meter to determine the live and neutral socket.

I bought this cable for use with my digital source, which is an Onkyo DX7555 CD player. The Onkyo does not have a detachable power cord, but the stock cord can be removed by opening the chassis cover and simply unplugging it from the power supply board.

Prior to using this cord, I found the Onkyo's treble was uninvolving and midrange clarity. After replacing the stock cord with the AQ NRG-1.5 there was a huge improvement that could be felt immediately.

The noise floor dropped dramatically and the treble became exciting and involving, with nice instrument tones. The midrange also became clear and overall transparency improved.

Just to be sure I was not just hearing things, I repeated my ABX testing with the stock power cord after a day and confirmed that the improvements were due to the AQ NRG-1.5.
