very impressive all around sound I highly recommend them to anyone with the budget.

301 II series. Good background filler.

Lately i bought a pair of Bose 301 Mk2 in perfect condition. I must say that my Studiocraft 220 (manufactured by bose as well) sound better than the 301's particularly in the upper frequency range.

this was not good speaker spent almost five hundred dollars on these speakers and they were not a good value. They give good mid range yet otherwise worth less. Went on to put these as side surround speakers and up graded quickly to a pair of sony speakers I got off e bay for 40 dollars much better sound. The do not work well. Heard for years how great bose was and it was not a truth. will not make this mistake again.

When I'm hosting a party - trust me these speakers are working !! You can push 301 speakers in a house party and the sound is great. Your walls will feel it !! Placement is key because this is how these speakers were designed to operate.The best thing about bookshelves - they take up minimal space but pack a punch for their size. Great for home theater sound too.

fyi...these are the 2010 model. I guess I am another one of those guys who never really paid attention to the bose products. My father purchased the acoustimas 10 system around 1 year ago and was very happy with it. I thought it sounded 'ok' for a small system, but was not overly impressed. Over the years I have had some very nice Klipsch speakers and have also had a very nice pair of realistic optimus T110 speakers that were outfitted with new Klipsch crossovers. I have been very happy with them all. I decided to take a chance on the 301's without listening to them 1st and was pleasantly suprised. Very similar in tonal quality to what I have had, but with a much wider soundstage. I run the speakers with a Denon 1708. I also use a velodyne 8in subwoofer and Klipsch RC25 center. Rear speakers are the famous bose 161. Sound fills a 14x16ft room with absolutely no issues. It is difficult to paint a picture on the 301's, but I guess I would start by saying they sound nice. Low end is a little more than I would expect from a speaker this size. High end is crisp. Midrange.......I don't want to say it is lacking, but maybe a little less than the Realistic optimus T110's. The Denon reciever is a little bright sounding so I was able to easily improve the midrange frequency by slightly reducing the treble and bass on the reciever. I set the speaker setting on the reciever to small and subwoofer crossover on the Denon at 80hz. Very smooth listening without fatigue. The klipsch center seems to blend fairly well, but I think I would like to try the bose center. Some of the reviews on this product make me a little nervous however. If you are thinking of purchasing the 301 system but just do not know if you should let me help just a little. You must be looking to purchase a bookshelf model. There are several types and you want the best for your money. If you have a mid grade reciever I am fairly certain you will be happy with these speakers. If you are looking for something "amazing" you need to be looking at a much higher price. What you will have if purchased is a really neat looking, pleasent sounding, nice value system that will bring you listening pleasure. I decided to purchase the stands over the wall brackets and I am glad i did. They are fairly well constructed and look nice. I am very happy with my purchase and enjoy listenting to these daily... fyi... I listen to several types of music which all seem to sound very well. Ex....M Buble, Christopher Cross, Allison Krauss, AC/DC, some country...... ...I really think you will be happy with these if you are truly in fact set on a book shelf model. Many high brow audiophiles turn up their nose at Bose speakers. They like to quote specs, complain that Bose speakers are lacking in brilliance, tonal quality and, "the sound color in the speakers". To the non-audiophile, sound color is BAD. It means the sound delivered is not pure and has color (it may lack something), or it may be tinny, muted or dull; this is color. The main cause of sound color comes from the amplifier. Some amps simply stink when it comes to delivering rich tone and clarity. Another reason for sound color is Misapplication of equipment, such as not positioning speakers correctly or not adjusting the equalizer to maximize the sound quality. Bose does have sound color. It is called enjoyable listening tones. Dr. Bose went to great lengths to maximize these very qualities audiophiles consider "color". I love the Bose sound when it comes through from a good preamp, to a good main amp then through an equalizer to the properly placed speakers. And with Bose you have will have stereophonic sound no matter where in the room you happen to be! Music is about enjoyment. It is about music that is pleasing to listen to - not specs. I just connected the 301s to my, Millenium Falcon, NAD3240 AMP. I'm pleasantly surprised by the acoustic response. I can now see why some are dissatisfied with the product. In my opinion if Clients are looking to crank up the AMP & 301s with the "duff duff" over produced sound. This speaker may not be for you.

I'm now watching Music Vids from HdTv via Amp to Speakers. It's a fantastic sound!!! Last night I watched the Vienna's New Years Concert 2001 on DVD. Please NOTE!!!! The Concert Hall recording was replicated through the speakers!!! The depth, clarity, and range fills the room.

I can't wait to crank up later some Rock n Roll stuff that has "minimal" production in it's recording phase. Key Point here. Bose 301s does justice to natural sound. I don't have to alter my Bass or Treble settings on my AMP. Now that's saying something.

Back when I was on a budget - 1987 or so - I purchased these speakers - paired with the best reciever I could afford at the time. My DG Berlin Philharmonic with Karajan conducting Holst or Beethoven sounded amazing, as did well produced pop fare like Crowded House. I noticed things on my Steely Dan CDs that I never heard before. But they LACKED mid-range punch. They didn't rock hard with everything.

Some have said the mid-range was good but no high and no bass. Well, I have always found the opposite to be true with the 301s - crisp highs, warm lows and reduced mid-range.

Are these monitors? No. But they make most music played through them sound very sweet and warm - with a huge stereo listening area. That lack of mid-range DID help their listenability and fatigue factor - they are very easy on the ears, and the balance is such that it doesn't step on conversation - or annoy the ear with sharp mid range, even when turned up. A great PARTY speaker.

They now sit in my office - run by a cheap piece of junk wireless Radioshack amp that is fed from my laptop - I have them placed improperly - on the floor in the corners of the room....and they still sound great.
