Strength:

I really like this stereo amp, its a very warm musical amp that the sound can be very customizable depending on the tubes you choose. It drove my 802 d3 with force. It truly has a very liquid sound, even more if you are using EL34 tubes with it. If your driving this with a SLP-05 preamp you simply can't go wrong...

Weakness:

Its very heavy, gets very hot due to the number of tubes but thats expected of a all tube stereo amp.

This is the best power amplifier i ever had, and i did spend a lot of money trying to find the best sound for my ears, the good thing with separates is, you can customize it to the sound signature of your liking, with the right pre-amp, tor me it sounds excellent with Prima Luna Dialogue tube pre-amp.There is no such thing as a perfect sound... It does not exist but, you can find the sound that is right for you, Cary CAD 120 MK 2 is the best tube power amplifier, at least for me, this is what the tube amps are supposed to be.It gets really hot and should be placed in a well ventilated rack. THE BEST??????.

This amplifier has none of the qualities tubes are known for. It sounds bright and thin as though the mid and high frequencies have been intentionally spiked and it's not transparent. Brightness is not transparency. My 24 year old Nakamichi PA7 has a more solid natural sound without the harshness. I purchased the CAD 120S MK ii along with the SLP-05 preamp and CAD 500CD. The CAD 120S MK II had to be replaced because the left channel bias meter was pegging and blowing the fuse. The ready light and power lights on SLP-05 preamp are so dim that they can hardly been unless the room is in darkness and reflects poor build quality. The amplifier only has holes for ventilation on the transformer cover. The bottom, sides, top and bottom of the amplifier are completely enclosed and the amplifier runs very hot. If you’re in the market for a quality product that produces music that sounds natural and doesn’t have a hyped up frequency response look elsewhere.
