The D60 was made in the early 1980's and went for $1995. Given the general opinion of early ARC solid state designs compared to other designs at the time and now, it was probably not a good deal for 2K. However, IMHO, there is often little relative comparison between a product on the new scale to its used market scale (McIntosh being an excellent example). The D60 is now worth between $450 and $550 (1997) and in the company of other new and used amps in that price range it is an excellent amp. For 60 watts, it has beefy power reserves and can effectively handle difficult 4 ohm loads. It has ample bass control and decent if not very good handling of the mid and high frequencies without harsh highs. Its only pitfall is that it is not the most dynamic of amps. Like I said though, within the current category of new + used amps in the 400 - 600 range it may be the norm. Overall its a very nice amp that will be a show piece so-to-speak in any mid-fi system, however, anything more, and it shows all those 'solid state' qualities.
