this is as solid as they come. I have a vr-5000 and IT's stands with my Marantz 2245b. I would sell this for 400.00 or trade patjprice.pp@gmail.com

Purchased my Vector Research VR 7000 from Tec HiFi in the 1970's and am still using it today and it still sounds great!!! Using it to power my ceiling speakers in several rooms in my house.

That's what I call a great purchase. Thank you Vector Research. Lots of great memories!

friend gave me this vector research.i bought a set of jbl.balboa 30.it sounded better then any system i ever had in the past including technics/sansui/kenwood/yamaha/onkyo/denon/mishubishi/sony/sanyo/realistic/aiwa.i can go on and on and my friend's systems of different brands.one of my friend is a pro audio dude, but anyways,i'm amazed with the clairity.the power never need to be turned on over 45%.on my 90 to peak of 280 watts speakers.makes my yamaha rx 540 like junk.it just weird how some new compared with some that old and there is no comparison.i love this vr 7000.priceless piece.buy it if you can find it.and enjoy,i'd looked it up and can't believed some are still being sold at under 200 bucks.can't even buy a 1000 buck reciever and match the sound, with this reciever you can really hear janis jolin breaths and everything i mean everything.

VRX-7100:

Bought ebay Australia. $44. Driving a pair of Jamo Art wall-mounted speakers.
Great sound. Has mid adjustment as well as the treble and bass. Using for CD playing only. I cannot turn the volume up beyond about 20~25%; this amp has such power in reserve. I am talking a very large kitchen/dining with 12' ceilings.
Wonderful.

Strength:

Top-quality sound and dependability.

Weakness:

None.

I bought my Vector Reasearch VR 7000 receiver 1985 in the Sacramento area, and have used it heavily since. No problems, other than some popping noises from the bass control pot when first powered up. The problem goes away after about ten minutes.
This has to be one of the best bargains in my life--$125 for a high-end receiver that has been faithful for the 23 years I've owned it. It powers a pair of Acoustic Research AR3a's to room-filling volume with clarity and deep, solid bass. The AR's are notoriously power hungry at that. Mind you, I mainly listen to classical and jazz, and occasionally rock. For high levels of rock music, the Vector Research would be a bit under-powered at times, but for my taste, this unit is fine (My old Bose 901 Series II's are better suited for rock).

Strength:

Beautiful sound almost DC quality and enough power to drive almost any speaker to room filling volume. Shut down protection. Runs cooler than most sets I have had. Appears to be well made. Love the weighted tuning and the two meters for signal strength and centr'e tune.

Weakness:

Could have had an extra gang in the front end and an extra IF stage. This is only an issue if one lives near to FM transmitters and in a crowded region.

A very nice set that I picked up from the thrift store here in Baltimore city. After I got it home, I replaced two of the dial lamps and cleaned all the pots and switches. I also replaced the second of the 2 three pin ceramic filter with a 150khz low loss one. This improved selectivity to a moderate degree. Good sensitivity and a very pleasing tone quality. Another reader spoke of the 420 watt rating. This is how much power it consumes from the mains to produce about 65 wpc into 8 ohms and probably about 100wpc into 4 ohms. Also another reader spoke of what he thought was a weakness of shutting down when driven hard. On the contrary, this is a very desireable feature that PROTECTS the set in the event of an overload.

Strength:

Reliable and lots of clean power.

Weakness:

Not in business anymore.

I purchased the Vector Research VRX-9000 in 1983 at a clear out; the sales rep had to talk me into it as I had never heard of VR. It is very conservately rated at 85w per channel, powers both a pair of AR 58bx's and also B&W DM302's, Thorens TD150 turntable and has worn out a few CD players. Why did they go out of business? This receiver has been great with no problems whatsoever other than a cleaning every few years. I have the the original manual if anyone needs a copy. Great product. Is there a website devoted to VR?

Strength:

420 watt power supply. Loud and clear sound.

Weakness:

Greenish brown color not very appealing

This unit is about 65 watts per channel. Some of the features are full range tone controls(bass, mid and treble). Also right and left led meters. There are jacks for two tape decks with tape dubbing and monitor switches. Fly-wheel tuning with signal meter and center meter. What a score for $70.00!

Strength:

It has survived for 16 yrs of use. It has excellent sound

Weakness:

It will shut off if I turn it up using too many speakers

I bought this receiver in 1986. It replaced an NAD receiver that blew up.I have a nasty habit of hooking up more speakers than the outputs allow. This has survived 3 CD players, and blew out one pair of mission speakers, it now is the receiver for 3 rooms in my house
