Summary:
Just responding to another review here. this is a 70's area receiver and yes it has gobs of power. Its still rockin faithfully (well, almost) in 2009. One of the channels was fading out but since its got 4 channels, ive got the left speaker in channel A and the right speaker in channel D and all four activated (speaker A+B switch). I'd like to upgrade to a high end receiver from this century, but the mortgage comes first.
This thing sounds great, has power to spare and nice VU meters to look at :)

Review 2 of 2

Summary:
I'm going to buy a 790 tommorrow at a thrift store for $78. It's probably from the 70's and it's made in Japan. It makes all the receivers sold nowadays look like flimsy crap. I've tried it out and it seems to be a powerhouse. The VU meters that indicate power go to 270 watts for each channel. It has bass, mid
and treble faders, high and low filters, a mic jack and fader, and I believe
that it has A, B, and C speaker outs and TWO phono inputs.
I heard it hooked up to some huge junky PA speakers and it still sounded
very powerful and musical. It's a monster with soothing blue light on the
tuner scale and four VU's on the front. It brings me back to the days when
the stereo receiver was a calm and pleasant friend that was built like a
brick house.
If anybody has or had a 790 please write a review. It is a cool receiver.
