Strength:

The B285 ranks far from the most powerful receiver on the market. It produces 70 watts with very low distortion into 8 ohms, with plenty of power to spare for those dramatic compact discs. miami yacht brokers

Its so difficult to purchase a worthy speaker online unless you are a sound geek. I have read articles about it from essay websites but never really understood what the specs meant. Could somebody simplify it?

Strength:

best sound and tuner I ever heard

Weakness:

old, only stereo, no digital gags, no-fuss design (made for professional use)

The Rolls-Royce of amps ;-). Pure quality and engineering. Used with proper speakers (Quadral Titan in my case), this receiver provides a wonderful sound. Especially for classic music. I am looking for a replacement with 5.1 channels (sub $5000), but have not been convinced so far.

Oh, and the tuner is top (for FM) too (even if I don't care).

Discontinued product. Very high build quality as typical for Revox. Side panels are from plastic, though. I have had this for ten years and have had absolutely no troubles with it. The LCD display's light bulbs are 36 volt and therefore spares are not available everywhere. Remote controller (optional, B205 or B201CD, for example) works very well; the unit registers commands even if you do not point directly to the receiver with the controller and it works at least from 15 metre distance. Undoubtedly one of the best receivers ever made for domestic use - also suitable for use in professional set-ups. (I have seen these in use at mobile military radio stations! :o) Almost forgot: the sound quality is also very good, as you can expect from legendary manufacturer.
