Bottom Line:
I purchased the SC09-tx directly from Pioneer at the end of 2010. This receiver has all the bells and whistles and has been regarded as producing great sound, It does produce a good quality sound, especially for movies, but I had problems with the unit from the start. First, when playing blu-ray movies, there were instances when no sound would come through and I had to shut down the system and restart. The receiver needed a firmware upgrade, but you cannot do the update yourself, it has to be sent to a service center. After getting the update, I noticed some very loud popping noise with certain movies and DVD-audio disks. When played at reference level, the popping noise can be, and mostly likely, will harmful to the speakers. Pioneer does not seem to be acknowledging the problem, although on AV forums, this is not a rare occurrence with this receiver. This is very poor customer support for a product retailing for $7000 and I am currently stuck with a heavy doorstop. I will not buy another Pioneer product.
