Review 3 of 3 Summary: The Sansui AX-7 Mixer Console is truly a unique piece of equipment. I've never seen a similar product offering by any other audio manufacturer. It is a 19" rackmountable mixer with effects inputs, built in recording reverb (spring tank type - can you say retro o o o o?) and a host of individual level controls as well as a master.
I use this primarily to add source inputs to my classic Sansui "black stack" - TU-919, AU-919, SC-1110, SC-3330, RA-900 and SE-7 eq. Since it was made to match this series of components, it is the perfect way to get past the lack of auxiliary inputs common on most integrated amps. Also nice to hook in the synth, or the computer to pipe MP3's into the system.
While I have seldom used it as a mixer, it is certainly a versatile and usable mixer, with 4 channels for mix/line input, as well as 3 tape loops and the aforementioned effects loops. Each channel has a panpot, a level control, and selectable reverb for the mic/line inputs.
If you own a 1978-81 Sansui black series system and need extra in's, this is a great solution, and it'll look good with your other gear to boot. Strengths: Very useful little unit, and looks nicer than adding a console mixer to a home stereo. Weaknesses: Prone to noise, if not properly grounded. Also, a lot of rotary pots, so keep contact cleaner handy. Similar Products Used: Nothing similar I've ever seen
