Review 1 of 8

Price Paid:  $870.00 from Outlaw

Summary:
Very disappointed that I could never get this product to work with the HDMI/DVI input outputs. Had numerous emails back and forth with Outlaw technical support trying to resolve. Ultimately they just blew off my problems saying that some products work with it, others do not. I have both a Philips DVR and a Panasonic Blu-ray player that never worked through the HDMI of the 990. Ultimately, had to bypass the Outlaw Processor and use for audio only.

Strengths:
Good audio processor, switcher. Good component video.

Weaknesses:
Could not get to work for HDMI video.

Similar Products Used:
B&K processors.

Review 2 of 8

Price Paid:  $999.00 from outlaw audio

Summary:
As stated before the word for this unit is WOW!!!! i bought the 990/7125 combo. the 7125 is the power amp @125wpc, i was running a onkyo ht SR600 and this is a no contest between those two.. on the 990 i love listening to 7 channel dolby music, to me it's better than 7 channel stereo and on the tv/dvd side this shines, movies become real life with this baby!! and the set up is not tough, everything is right on the display and just follow the along. i also run 2 Owtlaw audio 200watt mono block amps for bi-amping the front speakers, they are 4 Infinity alpha 50's with 2 alpha 20's for srback, then 3 alpha 1200s subs and a California Audio Labs CL-10 cdplayer, a HT Rane THX44 equalizer, Denon DP-47F turntable, Philips 46in ambilight LCD, and all interconnecters are Outlaw and all speaker cable is Monster M series, and a Monster Power 5100 conditioner, and one of the most important things {VIBRATION CONES} under everything !!!KEEP ALL YOUR UNITS VIBRATION FREE AND YOU'LL HEAR THE DIFFRENCE....TRUST ME..... and crank it up!!!! some jimmy thackery truned up good will work just right....lol....enjoy everyone....

Strengths:
Clean Prue sound, the best costomer service in the world!!! bank for the buck it simply can't be beat

Weaknesses:
really none but one could say size these units are big and the amp heavy but if doesn't matter it's a non-issue

Review 3 of 8

Price Paid:  $899.00 from OutlawAudio.com

Summary:
I am in awe of the 990 AVP. The audio quality is as good as I've encountered in my 55 years on this planet. The Bass Management and Auto Calibrate are spot on.
This AVP has truly been a find for me. I highly recommend it. The 990 will bring a smile to your face if you are an audiophile.
Bravo Outlaws

Strengths:
Extremely low noise floor.
High quality processor and DACS and ADACS.
Bass Management.
Auto Calibration.
Build Quality.
Looks.
Fabulous Audio Quality!
DVI.
Ease of use.

Weaknesses:
It has a few glitches, but show me a AVP or AVR that is not.

Review 4 of 8

Price Paid:  $1099.00 from outlawaudio.com

Summary:
I said a great deal about the 990 in the review I posted on my web site ( http://www.prillaman.net/990_review.html ), but it's worth saying a few things here as well.

The Model 990 is a cousin of Sherwood's P-965, but with a few extra hardware features (DVI video switching, balanced pre-amp outputs) and different software that includes somewhat more robust bass management. In addition to being an excellent surround sound receiver for DVD's and TV content, it is also a very capable two-channel performer. Toss in Outlaw's well-regarded customer service and their friendly online forum, and the 990 becomes even more appealing. If you are in the market for a surround processor, the 990 is definitely worth your consideration - even if you've set a budget well higher of its $1100 price tag.

Strengths:
surround processing
two-channel performance
customer support

Weaknesses:
size (height mainly) - it's tall and fairly deep, so make some room

Similar Products Used:
Yamaha and Outlaw receivers
Outlaw Model 950

Review 5 of 8

Price Paid:  $1099.00 from Outlaw Audio

Summary:
I replaced a Marantz sr-8500 that I was using as a pre/amp, needless to say what a difference the 990 has made. The sound and imaging from this unit is flawless. This is no comparison, as far as detail and clarity the 990 has brought me over the Marantz. The 990 is a neutral pre/amp and matches very well along with my Rotel RMB 1095 amp and my Klipsch RF-7's. If you can afford to move to seperates I HIGHLY recommend giving this unit a try, for the money their is nothing else that can compete with it.

System: Klipsch RF-7's, towers RC-7 center, RS-7 surronds, Marantz DVD 7600, Outlaw 990, Rotel RMB 1095, and Monster Power 5100 power center.

Strengths:
Everything....simply amazing! Crossover is nice, being able to customize the crossover point of each speaker is cool, goes from 200 dow to 40.

Weaknesses:
None I have found so far.

Similar Products Used:
Marantz Sr 8500, not a fair comparison though.
