Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $1500.00 from Musical Images

Summary:
MF A5cr PRE & A5cr PWR AMPLIFIERS

I had the chance to demo the A5cr Pre & A5cr Pwr amp at my dealers after reading the reviews in Hifi World and Hifi News. Well I was completely lost for words when sitting there listening to these monsters. The amps were tested with the Arcam CD73 and Kef Ref IQ7 not a very balanced system you may say.
But for 2 hrs I had the opportunity to be engulfed in a massive soundstage of epic proportions. The amp was refined, smooth but still had incredible detail, that i didn't have to turn up the dial no more than 8 o'clock. I used to have a Arcam A85 and P85 which did have its good points but compared to the sound quality of the MF amps they were crap. These amps are capable of taking on amps at twice the price. They have so much reserves of power that it is just unbelieveable.
One thing I must point out they are incredibly detailed and do not like being used with a midrange CD Player and speakers, so if you want to feel the full force of these amps I will advise you to get the best source and spks as possible.

I eventually purchased the amps through Ebay and saved a considerable amount of money, and I just love it. These amplifiers are for the keeping for the serious music lover, unless you want to go one step further and go for the KW range of amps.

Strengths:

These amps are capable of having serious power, refinement, detail, smoothness and excitement.

Fantastic build or workmanship. These amps mean quality and weigh a ton.

They also have a built in MM and MC Phono Stage.

Weaknesses:

Sorry I cannot think of any. Except that the remote is plastic, and could have been made out of metal to compliment the fantastic build quality of the amplifiers.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $9.00 from Ebay

Summary:

I WILL KEEP THIS AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE

I PURCHASE BOTH THE MF A5CR PRE AND PWR AMPLIFIERS THROUGH EBAY , AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE. BEFORE THIS I HAD A ARCAM A85 AND P85 AMPS , BUT THE SOUND JUST WASN,T BIG AND POWERFUL ENOUGH FOR MY LIKING.

WELL AFTER PURCHASING THE MF A5 AMPS I HAVE NEVER LOOKED BACK, IMMENSE POWER , HUGE SOUNDSTAGE , REFINED BUT HAS FANTASTIC DETAIL.

I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THIS PAIRS PERFORMANCE.
WORTH EVERY PENNY.

Strengths:

ENOUGH POWER TO BLOW YOUR OLD GRANNIES WIG OFF.
HUGE SOUNDSTAGE.
REFINED NATURE
FANTASTIC DETAIL.

Weaknesses:

COME ON YOU MUST BE JOKING.

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
