Price Paid:  $0.00 from factory

Summary:
This is my first seperate preamp. Prior to this I used a Jolida tube integrated that has been relegated to my 2.1 AV system. I am paring this with a pair of Manley Retro 100 tube monoblocks. There are enough inputs for everything I have tried with it. There is no internal phono amp. My Transparent phono amp does just fine with it. There are two outputs and a tape loop. I am using the tape loop for my Phillips CDR and it works great recording Lp's digitally. The sound is the best I have heard in my room. The preamp and the monoblocks drive my Shearwater hotrods better than anything I have heard. One cool thing, the preamp and the monoblocks have variable feedback to subtly change the sound. (BTW, the mono's are also switchable from Triode to Pentode, depending upon yur mood and music, really cool!!!)

Strengths:
great sound enough inputs and outputs great synergy with Retro 100's tube sound can be "tuned" with variable feedback

Weaknesses:
none that I have found

Magnepan Magneplanar MG 1.6 User Review

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
