Bottom Line:
On the invitation of Bob Bergner of RB Audio, I was able to listen and compare the Bruce Moore Audio Design Companion III preamp to the Stereophile Class A rated Aesthetix Calypso preamp. Initially, I didn't think the Companion III had a chance because the Calypso was a Class A rated product. By was I wrong. The Companion III had a much deeper and wider sound stage while increasing the life-likeness of instruments. Also, it sounded more dynamic with a greater ease of extended listening than the Calypso. I was quite surprised that the Companion III was able to sound so good and yet cost less than the Calypso. Listening to "Jazz at the Pawnshop" the Companion III was able to better flush out more information and recreate you the feeling that you were sitting in that pawnshop with the other people. If you happen to be in the San Francisco Bay Area, you owe yourself to listen to this and the other Bruce Moore products that Bob carries since he is the exclusive distributor of the Bruce Moore line. Bob is very friendly and unlike some dealers, doesn't pressure you into purchasing something you don't need. You can contact him via his web site for an audition at www.rbaudio.com. The Companion III should be on your short list. It will be a pleasant surprise for those 2-channel purists.
