from ebay Summary: Had a power surge meltdown and lost my old system, including a tubed Pro5 which I loved. But there had been problems. Not so with this little beauty, except for a sticking tape -monitor switch. I really could not be more pleased with it: excellent quality sound - from all perspectives; most especially spectral balance - and it has all the control flexibility one could want. I shall get another if this one packs up for sure. Was also able to "Tube buffer" my Oppo UDP with a pair of ART MP Studio mic pre-preamps and they plugged in with no discernable increase in noise and CD/SACD/DVD-A's on tubes give my vinyl a REAL run for the money.
Mainstream convenience with audiophile sound quality in sum-up. Strengths: WELL balanced sound quality in both passive and active modes with no detectable difference, which gives in effect 2 preamps for one: passive for Acoustic music and active for Rock; excellent features and ease of use. Extremely quiet, regardless of input. Compact design and size. Weaknesses: that sticking tape monitor switch! Similar Products Used: Quantum 201;Meridian 204 ; Musical Fidelity "the Preamp; B&K Pro 5 w/tube output stage.
